WD aux hydro pump

Was wanting to add a pump to a WD off the crank for a front end loader. I want full hydraulics and maybe even use it for the 3 point if it is effective enough.
What are the ideas about belt slippage if I use a double 5/8 belt pulley.
Wanting to go with a 10GPM 2000psi pump.
I can be more versitile in pump selection if I use a belt because of the WD engine speed versus the pumps operating speed.


Any advice/suggestions

Most of the time belts work pretty good and a double even better. I have a hyd pump set up like that on a machine and the only time it has a problem is when you get it in a bind and then it slips a bit but not all that bad

Biggest issue is finding the pulley, or attaching a double sheave to the existing one. Even a single sheave will work, and there was a single that could be attached with set screws. Another option is to bore out the center of the factory pulley with a mill and weld in a shaft, true it, and attach your extra pulley(s).

I have a Surplus Center catalog and it has bout everything I need including bushings for the about any pulley I choose.
I was going to get a shaft the same diameter as the crank and attach the drive pulley to that. use it as you said JMS/MN.
I'm pretty sure they have pulley bushings that big and then whatever size of the pump shaft is.
The bushing are keyed also.
So from the consensus it should work correct?

I need to do another pump setup to free up the pto on mine. Why couldn't a pump be ran off the pto shaft under the tractor with a belt or chain drive? That would give you the ability to turn the pump on and off. Mine has the backhoe mount so I have plenty of room around there to mount a pump on one of the rails.

Wouldn't the pto shaft be consistent throughout the RPM range? I'm not sure if you need to be able to slide the shaft through something, but you could put a keyway on the shaft and do some sort of pulley setup fairly easy.

That was one of my considerations. If I have learned anything about this tractor from brush hogging with it for the last 20 years, it should work fine for backhoe work.
But if you were doing loader work, you could sprout another arm out your chest to operate the hand clutch to be able to shift gears, one to run the loader controls and one to steer and hope you have power steering.

I have heard of a PTO pump used for a backhoe and a crank pump used for a loader on the same tractor. You would just have to incorporate a PTO pump drive in there. I know it can be done, it"s just how bad you want it.

You are making it way too complicated...you need the front pulley to drive the fan and generator. How would you attach the same size shaft to the crank, and still have the pulley there? Other poster says to add a pump along the live pto shaft- it would still not be independent, like the crankshaft-driven system. Also don"t need three arms to run the existing system...if you can"t hold the steering wheel with one hand and extend a finger to run the lift lever....that"s all it takes.

The most straight forward installation is to use an original double groove crankshaft pulley AC used with their factory power steering tractors, mount the pump of your choice below the engine on a bracket that is used for the engine front support, install an additional hydraulic reservoir tank and valves. 3 valves in the loader system would be nice: lift/lower,bucket,and one remote outlet for whatever. Best to keep the lift arms hydraulic system separate.

every once in a while there are small belt pulleys on ebay that go in the place where the big belt pully goes on the frame rail. Does that fit this situation at all? You could still mount a pump on the bottom side without tapping into the pto shaft.

I'm not sure if this option would for work for you instead of an additional hydraulic pump. it seemed like a simple thing to make without the hassel of having to fabricate another pump to work on the tractor. check out the pictures of how this tractor loader is hooked up on this WD. if you dont get to the link before the auction closes, i saved pictures on my computer as well.
