WD wont start

Tried to start my great grandpas '48 WD yesterday. I put a new battery in it and fresh gas in it. Went to start it and id pull the started rod and nothing would happen. The starter wouldnt turn over at all. I couldnt find a magneto switch on it like there is on the other WD. Any idea on what would be wrong?

Well if wired as it should be the starter circuit and the ignition circuit do not work off each other so the engine should spin over with or with out the ignition on. As for it not spinning over check all battery connection and remember clean tight and bright. Bad connection at the battery or at the ground or switch will cause that as will a poor ground at the starter where it is bolted in

I was fooled by a poor ground last week on my wc -- took the started off and bench tested it -- it works fine -- saved myself a $100.00 rebuild

Jumper from Battery to Starter motor post on the starter and see if it turns over...
Use the other Jumper cable to jumper the other battery post "to Ground"...
If it is a bad connection..the starter will turn the engine over this way..

I've had my WD bendex jam in the starter where it was stuck and it didn't make any noise. Using a volt meter if i had 12 volts on the battery and hit the starter when it was jammed it would go to 0 volts as if it was a bad batter. Removed the starter, reinstalled it and problem went away. this has happened several times. I think its because my ring gear is wore out where the starter hits it.
