Weak antifreeze (JD unstyled D)

I went to afriends house and looked in the radiator of an un styled D the antifreeze was kind of icy just a little more than slushy. Do you guys think there might be some major damage done? Im interested in buying it should I run or keep it in consideration. Happy Trails Gentlemen!

Doubt if slush would hurt anything. Start it and run it long enough to get hot, then let it cool. Check for antifreeze in the oil or any external leaks, but I doubt if you will find anything wrong. This is based on it not seeing temperatures much lower than it was the day you looked at it. I have heard that ever weak antifreeze will not freeze solid enough to break anything, buut I don't want to test the theory. Good luck,

Most likely its still ok. Slush will not hurt and engine because it isn't frooze solid. Now if I where you and it does run I would start it up and add some anti freeze to it ASAP, just in case it does get cold enough to cause problems. Even if you don't buy it adding the antifreeze will make sure it doesn't cause problems down the road. I know if the price is right I would still buy it but then I would have 2 unstyled Ds

I'm sure you guys up north know a whole lot more about vehicles freezing than a Texan ever will. My experience is when you have slush in the radiator, and you start it, It will get hot because it won't circulate the coolant. It just melts in the block and boils but none gets in the radiator to cool down.

I would warm the tractor up with portable heaters until all the slush is melted. Better play it safe. Tom

That tractor does not have a waterpump to circulate the coolant, so adding antifreeze will not help it.It should be drained down completely and new antifreeze/water mixed 50/50 before refilling.
