I was having intermittent spark issues with my 1952 8N. Because it's so much easier, I removed the distributor to set the point gap on the bench. Having done that I was certain the gap was correct. While rotating the motor by hand (with a screw driver through the timing mark inspection port) and, for some reason, looking very carefully at the point gap when the cam came around to open the points I noticed the point rubbing block didn't even touch the cam. A little wiggle of the rotor showed too much play indicating a worn bushing in the distributor. I replaced the bushing and it made a hogh difference. Now when the engine does start it purrs like a kitten.
