weakest and strongest

I would like to start with the L Case.. Your opinion on the weakest thing about a L and the strongest thing about a L. Later we can add other models... My L was the one I started to run when I was a kid and than I moved to the LA. My L (my grandfather bought it new)was one of the first two sold in Cheyenne CO Nebraska in the fall of 1928.
I"ll start!
strongest-- oil bath clutch
weakest -- no muffler, hard on the ears Huh??

A 1928 is very very hard to find. What is the serial number? The early manfold with no holes for a outlet is very rare. Weak spot are the mated gears on the clutch input shaft and first reduction shaft. Strong ,is all the parts after the input gears.

7 mi per hour, hmm, sounds good, when I'm on my "DC" this summer life will be much better at 7 mi per hour.Had a lifetime of the faster stuff

Road gear is fine. More gears are needed from 1st to 3rd. 1st is often too fast for choppers and combines, etc. and too slow for the plow.

Check that DC post again ... I beg to differ ,,They go about 12 -15 miles per hour , (mine rev a little faster because I run LUCAS oil) at that rate a farm 7 miles away would take about one hour of travel time , round trip.. gives a guy some scheming Time ..

Hi J, yes your right,I think it was around 10 mile per hour road gear, but I want to "joy ride",my post didnt reflect that.

Hey how are you doing? Here were suppose to have a warmup starting tomorrow, going to get some "farm stuff" done this weekend? How about you, whats your weekend plans?

Ok I reckon ,thats a loaded question ....... Kinda gettin behind ,Got all the parts to complete the overhaul for the YANmurray loader tractor , move fence , Put My SARA'S new range hood in kitchen , sort cattle, repair feed grinder , take 800 Case tranny top off to see whats not working in there and fix , put 730CASE back together , change hydro fluids on 4020 and 1070 , cut wood , change motor on splitter , repair barn roof , rebuild well house , and wood shed the wind dam near finished off for me ,change heater core in Celebrity, Hub bearing on Corsica , sowe clover , get the 86 dodge road worthy and #1 truck status , remove bumper and runnin boards on cummins dodge to get ready for paint on the 23rd , get the rest of the round bales from up at Dads, remove WIND damaged shingles and relay new shingles , take a load of corn in for delayed pricing .......

Jim,
Yes,those dark places one needs to go,even when its not by choice, sorry to here about your Dad,I know about that, lost mine to lung cancer in 01.Yep,know about those investments too, talk about a tongue lashin somebody should get for taking those little parachutes away from us.
Like you there has been trouble, like them darn floods and all this rain.

But like you,I got up,dusted myself off and going again. But there will be prayers for those that are still down.

I think all of us in here need each other, and like you,I get a really big kick out of reading all that goes on to get all this old machinery to run again.

Yesterday,I called my old friend with the "600" combine, hehe,he told me,yea he's going to sell it to me,as it will never get fixed with him.But he still couldnt come up with a number! I just chuckled and he said will talk about that another day! I said that sounds fine. You know that is a bunch of fun too.I will wait till hes ready.

Good Luck old friend

WOW!! this thread has went the wrong way.. All I wanted was reply on the L first and than when exhausted we could go to other models.. OH well all thing go on these forums...
