Weather maybe????

Doug: I've noticed that also. Seems worse on Friday evenings and weekends. Maybe folks are having a few shots of liquor as they browse the forum? It sometimes seems the newcomers are worse than the regulars, too. I've noticed that some car enthusiast forums are rough; and I once saw a motorcycle forum that was awful. I hope ours does not get like those. I've always felt we had something special going here involving above average nice people. mike

Or theres just more dumb people on here than ever??? Its kinda nice not having MikeCA posting every ten seconds about a H he found and can't afford.

some of us enjoy hearing about peoples search for a tractor. I sure do and know the feeling. Not all of us have money dropping out of our butts and can take chances on a tractor that is too questionable.

I'd suggest if you dont like hearing about it, then dont click on his posts. He has every right to post on the board as anyone. His posts are far from annoying. I'm sure u find my posts annoying to, oh well.

The essence of the issue you address is knowledge.
The secondary component is civility.
Many of us need no assistance at all and are solid machinests, engineers, welders, and mechanics. Some with experience encounter worst case situations, and need the reassurance of our peers to forge ahead. Some newbies with great interest, ask the same question that has been asked 1000 times. Some friends (Mike in CA as an example) are in process or temporarily stopped and still need to be in contact. They are all welcome.
The only two kinds of unwelcome input are those which are disrespectful of others, and those which repeatedly shoot off their opinion based on really poor knowledge, or intent to confuse.

Nothing is as simple as it seems in psychology and tractors. The individuals that provide hurtful content, and bad info usually don't last more than 4 or 5 posts. I love it here. JimN

Yeah, I noticed alot of new names lately, but speaking as a new comer, I hope I wasn't that bad, I've only been on since about march or april of this year. There is some VERY knowledgable people on here. I usually don't resond to most of the problems I know about, cause by the time I get on they are already well answered.

I guess as far as replies, we got to take the good with the bad. Doug N

Well said, Jim. There is a wide variety of people on here, young guys that post about Daddy's tractor, people that are working on tractors that know what they are talking about, people that post all the time because they think they know it all, and everything in between. I got a kick recently out of the guys making fun of the dude that had his radiator cap on his fuel tank until someone posted a picture of the gas cap that said Pressure Open Slowly. Sometimes things will really get under my skin, but I try to keep my mouth shut so you guys don't figure out what a jacka$$ I really am. This forum has been diluted down from "antique" to general tractor information. I have troubles calling an H or M an antique because I can remember when you were a lightwieght if you showed up at an antique show with an F20. Anything to do with a 1066 has no business on an antique forum, but in reality if you have questions this is the place to find people with answers. So be it, to each his own, but being civil is good. I am proud to say I have been here since the beginning and will stay here, YT IS the BEST game in town.

I pretty much keep up with what is going on here for the knowledge. I have been printing out questions and answers for about 2 years now. I am the first to acknowledge that I have none about tractors even though I have 2 or 3 college degrees hanging on the wall--I cannot remember one course in college that had to do with timing a magneto to engine so, I guess ones rate of literacy on a specific subject depends on his background and I suspect that a professional rocket scientist might run into several issues if he actually got his hands dirty restoring a machine that was abandoned 30 years. And, I often smile about the civility or lack of it and decline to be drawn into an affray--althought it might be fun at times.

Now if ya stop and think about it a 1066 or even a 86 seires is in reality is and antique As it has pasted the thiry year mark or real close to it . And as for me heck i am and old fossel . And at times i realy get ticked off at some of these guys and there half arres replys . Most guys do come on here because they want to try and fix something themselfs and do it correctly . And heck i have even messed up on giving out information i knew what i wanted to say but it came out backwards in the typen of it .

You guys have helped me out a bunch on the restoration of my M and new aquired H. I've been on here since December and feel I know you guys from helping me out and also reading on other posts that you guys give advice to someone else. Im a young guy off the farm and into town to try and make a living, I hope in 10 years or less I will live the contry again or back on the farm to start taking over the farm. And until then I love working on these old tractors, its a real unque thing around here to see a restored tractor. I have alot of older gentelmen stop by my place when I'm working on one or its sitting out front and they just smile and tell me that so many memories are coming back to them, that to me is the best reward of these old machines. Keep up the good work guys, and hope im not gonna anoy anyone to much.

Derek

Yes, there have been. Im not going any further than that as to not royally pi$$ somebody off, but yes, its getting rude on here!

You really are right about the antiques, and that's the scary part. My 1086 is almost as old now as the F20 I bought when i was a kid was then, and it seemed really old!

Is it just the freebies that have that lettering?

Doug: I've been around here, getting close to 8 years now. It hasn't changed a lot, only the names have changed. Yes, I can say the same questions do tend to get a bit annoying, however one must remember the archives don't work well. Unless one has the exact title, it's useless, and so many folks have found different titles for basically the same subject. I might add all of those titles are basically right.

Seven years ago one of the biggest problems was folks appologizing for a long post or question. It was so bad, a lot of folks were afraid to type more than 3-4 lines. Very often folks were looking for help, without giving enough information, for anyone to intelligently answer the question. That one has improved greatly, generally speaking the folks on here today do a much better job of expressing them selves. Most tend to describe their tractor problem better and in far greater detail.

Personally, I think we are improving.

I've been on the YT forums for a little over three years now I think . One brand or another . Usually I spend more time on Implement alley in the summer than I do in the winter which is the tractor fixing time for me meaning I visit here or the Oliver forum a little more often during cold weather . I hope I'm not at all rude by just asking inane questions or in any of my replies . I will get a little snippy if someone is rude with a reply depending on how it was worded . I'm not real bright and I don't type real fast so sometimes it takes me an hour to write down and edit things and I still get the wording wrong :) I'm one of those people that needs to say in a thousand words what could be said in ten if I was smarter or better educated . I am just starting on these farm related issues in my adult life and I know everyone has to start new with something . Also , some replies might talk down to some people but with a simple question there is no basis to know the questioners knowledge level on the subject or their mechanical background or aptitude for mechanics . So here's my thousand word reply to what could have been answered with a simple - Yes , I agree with you or no I don't agree with that assesment . You get the idea ;D ...Randy

PS- MAN , it's hot out !
