weight advice for rookie puller

Fella, I need some advice here.When pullin in the antique farmer stock class I have been pullin in the 4900# class with my wd45 this ol gal with calcium in the tires scales out at 4820# that no wheel wts just fluid in the tires. I have had some success but nothin consistant. Now my question is if I loose the fluid in the tires I could make the 4300# class(next class down)and with no wheel wts will the ol gal still pull good or not? In my experience when plowin and with no wieght the ol gal was helpless. It just spun down.I could probly be more consistantly competetive in the lower wt. class but just dont know if the ol gal would pull worth a hoot with no wt added. And I cant get down to 4300# with any fluid in the tires or any wheel wts. Any advice would help. Thanks alot, Hoss

I just started this year, only 4 pulls under my belt. I had the fluid taken out of my tires and I get down to 4000# and then add suitcase wgts and pull at 4500#. I need to get the wgts futher back.

Where do you pull at 4900# and 4300#???

Dennis, Central Ill. It is the Classsic Antiques Farmer Stock. Weight classes are 4300,4900,5500,6150,6650,7150,8650 and 8651 an up.

Oh Hell a 1 1/2 isn't to bad here in IL! It takes about 5HR to get to the south end of the state from here!
So you are south of Perioa a little ways?

with small tires it would probably do better with more weight . If I was going to pull it .it would have press steel wheels with 38 inch rubber 14.9 or 15.5 with no fluid . it would run close to 4 mile an hour in first gear at 20 percent over.

Dennis- I think Hossman pulls with the same group that I do, It's first-gear-only, '59 and older, stock wheels and tires. Mostly just a bunch of guys pulling thier old iron. Rules are pretty restrictive, but it keeps the big money guys out. We get 80-100 tractors nearly every pull. Towns are Mackinaw, San Jose, Tremont, Minier, Stanford, Delavan, Havana, Eureka, Hopedale, Pekin, and a few others in the area. I've been pulling with them for 3 years, and had a lot of fun. A good bunch of guys. If you are interested, I can send you the rules and the rest of the schedule for the year. Kevin

Hoss if thats the rules then add weight and a 175 gov spring and have fun. If youre not having fun then and want to have fun call me you can make plenty of changes inside the motor that cant be seen by the naked eye.

Hossman - That puts you in Gordey and Moe Bauer territory. Did they pull at Forest City yesterday? Wanted to come but daughter had 4-H show at 8-11 and then constant dizzle of rain so I bailed out.

I pull with Toolz as well (when I can make it) but 5500 and always have a good time - lotta good people. Probably won't make Havana as we are leaving on vacation but will be at Manito and Delevan (maybe Eureka)

Now about that Cesspool stuff - sure we have ADM making money, couple 3 salvage yards and whites are becoming the minority in the "city" but all in all it's been very good to me over the past 33 years. Let's stick together about the cesspool in Chicago before you give Peoria a bad name with Bradley, Peoria Chiefs, 3 very good hospitals and, of course, Caterpillar! Hope your not one of those who was laid off.

I have a Farmall B and a Super C so 3500 is my Max if I want to do any good!

Yeah, went to Minier. Very light rain all day, don't think it ever stopped. but the pull went well anyway. Tractor count was low (50-60) because of the Forest City deal, so they let us pull more than 1 class per tractor. Got 2nd with the 900 in 8650. Another 900 showed up, (propane no less) first pull for him, and he got me by about a foot. Got around Jack's big Minnie, so I was happy. Matt Rummel's 560 got 3rd. Matt also won in 6650 with his other 560, and I ended up 3rd with my IH. Not a bad day overall.

Just got back from Casey with the 1175. Tractor ran well, but middle of the pack again in both classes. I just can't get around the guys with the radials. Gonna have to get me some.

I don't know about next weekend- the wife's got something planned, so I may not make it. If not, We'll see you at the next one.

kruser, Yea Ive known Gordy an Moe all my life Good ole Boys threw an threw!! Moe lives down the road 1/2 mile from me and OL Gordy use to buy me at the FFA slave auction every year to muck them ol horse stalls of his!! Didnt mean to step on your toes bout P-town but I wouldnt live in that place if ya paid me. What was it last year the ladie and her ten year old daughter shot in the head for 10 bucks at an atm machine. 15 to 20 murders a year half of em in broad daylight an probly a 1/3 of em just reguler folks. When I have to go up there its with a hogleg in the back of my briches aint no one gona mess with me an mine!! No I think Ill just stay in my little ol Mason county cornfields. I truly feel for folks that gotta deal with all the crap them big cities dish out. I seen in the paper that last week some gal from Lewistown was tryin to get some lunch at Mcdonalds in the middle of the Day and had to dodge the bullets on account of to car loads of the"locals" got into a shoot-out.Then there was my t rip to deer an turkey classic few yrs. back I leave the civic center at 9pm to head for work take a wrong turn outa the parkin lot an a couple of "brothers" (Peoria's finest) pull me over and next thing I know Im in the middle of my trk hood gettin shook down. No that place aint for this ol hillbilly. Well ill get off my soapbox and you take care and keep your head down up there. Hoss P.S.
