What is the average weight on a 2N with a Wagner front loader. If I can't get mine running again soon I'm thinking of scrapping it. Always been a hard start in cold weather. Had trouble trying to start it yesterday. It seemed to freeze up and not want to turn over, would draw amp meter right down to max discharge. Tapped the starter with a hammer a few times, charged the battery and then it reluctantly started. Ran great once it warmed up. Drove it to my pole barn backed it in and shut it down. Tried to restart it and no luck. Seemed to turn over easily and fast but no attempt to fire at all. Getting frustrated with it and getting ready to get rid of it!

About 3,000 pounds. Why don't you just fix it? Sounds like your distributor needs attention. Points gap and timing.

When is the last time you changed the points, plugs, condenser, cap and rotor and set the timing?

What's your battery voltage?

You can pay $18k or more for a new diesel tractor and cut your maintenance considerably......or you can spend $100 or so and a few hours of time to get the 2N running.

If you were here I would give you 2X the scrap price.

Stick an ad on Craigslist or on Facebook Marketplace. Both are free and I would bet you would have people fighting over it at something less than $1,000. I just sold my 2N with loader on Facebook for $1900.00 in 5 days. Had new distributor, points, rotor, cap, plugs, totally cleaned fuel system including carb and it ran better than ever in the 20 years I owned it. Nobody on this site wants to see that tractor scrapped and we would go out of our way to help you get it back running again.

Scrap market is down due to tariffs. Export market has controlled the prices for a while but now with only domestic consumption there's a surplus. Just came back from a conference with my foundry buddies and there was lots of talk about metal pricing.

Who among us hasn't reached the point of maximum frustration with a tractor, or some such, and fantasized about seeing it melted down.

Last summer I bought the cheapest string trimmer that Bolens made (Walmart). It started great when cold. It started ok when hot. When the thing was anywhere between hot and cold no known combination of choking, half choking or throttling would get the damn thing started unti it cooled down completely.

About a month after buying it, I wrapped it around a big wild cherry tree. Then saved the pieces for the next big brush fire and threw them into that fire.

But for my 8N, I could never imagine such a fate.

If it is vexing you to that extent get rid of it. Life is too short for that kind of grief.
If you need a tractor, next time buy a diesel. To heck with all those points and coils and carbs.
Diesels run.
They always run.
