Weirdest sunset I've seen

Saw this last Wednesday. I had the camera out in the barn to take
pictures of tractor parts, so I was lucky enough to be in the right
place at the right time. My mother suggested I should try getting
some flowers in the foreground, and the flash lit them up. These
pictures are real and unretouched, even though they do look fake.
Weirdest sunset I've run into.

You can thank all our heavy industry and the particles that we've been pumping into the atmosphere for the great sunsets we see now a days. These beautiful scenes didn't exist hundreds of years ago.

Be thankful that you got to see it and more thankful that you got such great pictures!
Consider having them blown-up as they are definitely "suitable for framing"!!

Hope you were able to get everyone out safely before the fire got to your place!

Gorgeous pics- take 'em to the fair!

Zach, don't worry about somebody saying they are fake. Anybody that has the slightest bit of photographer in him/her will know what you did. Even todays point and shoots will do what it used to take professional grade equipment to get years ago.

Good suggestion from your Mother. Evening and night close ups of photogenic items with your flash can yeild astonishing results, much more arty than mid day full sun photos.

There were no forest fires or dust storms hundreds of years ago? Bullhockey. If you look into it, you'll find that many of the Indian nations in what is now the United States would intentionally set forest and range fires for a number of purposes. The sunsets would have been as spectacular then as they are today.

Nice shots.
I would submit them to Country Magazine. Might win something with nice shots like that.
Thanks for sharing.

That's true about how good cameras are nowadays. I took the pictures with a Canon Powershot A40 that bought used off Amazon over a year ago for $30. It is quite outdated compared to the newer digital cameras but it does a fine job going to the Adirondacks with me and out to the barn and such. I wanted one that I didn't have to worry about too much, and it seems to fill the bill.

Isn't there a greener board out there somewhere, just begging you to participate? We'd miss you, but would work through the loss eventually. . .

Beautiful - I'm with everyone else. Photo contests are a must!! These photo's will be appreciated by all who see them.

I think Mt. St. Helens pumped up quite a lot more particulates into the atmosphere than man made pollution would in a short time. And we've had volcano's on earth for some time now.

I was truck by that sunset too. Walking back to the house & saw it. Wish I'd had a camera.

That reminds me. I heard a rumor that the UN appointed some guy to be in charge of greeting aliens from outer space if and when they come to earth.
