Weld it, key it or both?

So I'm getting the front pump drive setup on my 3400, adapting a later model 776a loader onto it. The 776 uses a chain coupler at the pump, the 730 (standard equipment for the 3400) uses a moreflex 4 bolt flange adapter. I ordered a chain coupler from SurpCent and a splined sleeve. Turned the sleeve to the 1.125" for the one sprocket. I had considered welding them together but was thinking that the key would suffice.

Opinions? Another option is welding the key into the splined sleeve and allowing the sprocket to slide on and lock in place with the set screw. this coupler is rated at 78 hp so I'm not worried about wearing it out.

Using the engineering concept of "weak link" design,
I would rather have the key fail in the coupling instead
of the one in the crank shaft.

Thanks guys, I was leaning towards just the key, 1&1/2" of 1/4" key should hold it and if its sacrificial so be it. I'll be the only one using the FEL so I'm not going to abuse the pump... Is it called "deadheading" when the cyl reaches its limit and you keep pushing it?

If you are asking about what happens when you dead head it doesn't actually dead head, that's what your relief valve is for, it simply bypasses.

If it deadheads for even a second it will
be the end of the weakest part in the
system, you must have a relief valve in the
system, hydraulic oil does not compress so
something will blow up.

Pump, valve and cyls are all stock 776, the relief is in the valve assembly. So the system won't dead head in the true sense of the word.

Here it is, going to see how a 1.65" x .25" key holds, keyway in the splined sleeve is pretty shallow, had to cut the key down to .185" thick.
