Welding help

Need a little help, I'm building a set of forks for the front loader, and I've never welded a nut onto steel. May be very simplistic, but I wanted to know what to do, or not do. I'm just using a 5/8" bolt to tighten to the inside of the bucket, so I guess I just drill a bigger hole, ande weld the nut over that. Will be using 1/8" 7018. Thanks for the help. I'm usually not paranoid.

Just like you said except put a bolt in the nut before welding.

This will keep splatter out of the threads.

Do NOT remove the bolt till the welded nut is completely cool. You can damage the threads if you try to remove it hot. It may not even turn when it is hot.

The bolt also helps to keep threads from distorting while welding.

Spray the inside of the nut, and the bolt threads, with antispatter compound. Will help things not stick, where they shouldn't

If I understand you right your going to use the bolt/nut as a way to lock the forks on. So put ta bolt in the nut then weld it on. DO NOT remove or in any way move the bolt till the nut has cooled down to be able to be touched with your fingers no gloves. Works the same if you cut a bolt etc always have a nit to clean up the treads and let things cool
