Not looking forward to this job one little bit.

I've got to get this old manure spreader back in operation so as to clean out the corrals for winter.

Darned PTO shaft is rusted solid (won't extend) and the beater head has been "cowboyed" to no end with a welder.

Why do I have the feeling I'll be running back and forth to the salvage yard for the next two or three days? :>(

I've never seen a manure spreader on a wagon running gear before except the old horse drawn ones laying in rockpiles. And they had a single pivot front axle.

Shoot it! Nah, just do like you did before, hook a tractor (or hayburner)onto the shaft and pull! And beater bars that are "coyboyed up" are the best workers I heard. Doubt you even need to leave the farm. lol Have fun, it keeps you young! Bob

This is the original Farmhand running gear and power-box. The base machine and the running gear are in pretty darned good shape; probably because it was only used as a corn wagon.

The beater head, on the other hand, came from a different machine. That's gonna be a problem, I'm thinking.

Lot of guys would mount these boxes on an old truck because they will easily tip 8 ton when fully loaded.

Manure spreader??? Looks like a forage box to me. I would hate to have the apron break in that thing full of manure. Yikes. Thank God for Knight auger spreaders.

So what is a Knight auger spreader? Do you have any pictures??

They can be configured to be used as either a forage wagon, feed wagon or manure spreader.

Yeah, it has a "huge" floor chain. If and when they ever break, it totally ruins your day. :>(

Well, I'd bet you'll get er done, like the rest of the projects you've shown us. My father is the king of resuscitating old spreaders, as is evident by all the carcass's laying around in various places where he is still foolin with horses. That thing looks a heck of a lot better than the ones I've seen him fool with over the years. Must be open in the back, looks like it holds quite a bit though. I'm still finding parts in the weeds here, last remnants I found I just about ran over with the brush hog, (saw it and stopped quick) and there's been no livestock here since the early 80's.

It's just a side slinger that uses augers to move the manure to the hammers. They make rear discharge as well, very well built equipment in my book.
