What does the gizmo look like

Where is the gizmo that turns off a
lithium battery charger when the battery
is fully charged?

Where is the gizmo that stops a battery
from discharging past a certain voltage?

What does the gismo look like?

Please post a picture.

Is it the white thing in the picture that
has 3 LEDs that measure the voltage when
you push on the switch ?

It's not a "gizmo" (whatever that means. It is a carefully engineered circuit board. As they say, not "user serviceable."

The charger has the gizmoes that control charging and the discharge curve is nearly horizontal until near exhaustion at which point the tool quits. Jim

It is possible Dewalt is hiding it under the
cells.

I had 6 cells at a lower voltage than 4 other
cells.
I slowly charged the 6 cells, brought them up the
the same voltage as the other 4 cells and now the
battery is taking a charge and shuts off when the
voltage gets to 20.6. It should stop charging at
21 volts and stops discharging the battery at 18 volts.

I'm discharging the battery with a flashlight,
very slowly.
So far the voltage is 19v.
I would like to know if it shuts off at 18v and
then takes a full charge.

You never heard of a gizmo? I grew up back east and according to my Dad there were gizmos all over the place. :p

I slowly charged the 6 cells that measured 11.63 v.

This is a pic when I began charging at 1 amp.

After charging the 6 cells the total voltage was 20.61v.

The battery starting working. So the gizmo woke up and started working.

If there is no board in the battery itself, the "gizmo" is in the charger and the tools.

Notice that your Dewalt batteries have several connections, not just a + and a -.

This is why your adapters are a problem. They don't have the "gizmo" to prevent your batteries from getting messed up.

It is always immediately downstream of the Thing-A-Ma-Jig and upstream of the Whatchya-Ma-Callit.
