What have I got ?

I recently bought a Ford [5000] ???. The tractor was advertised as a Ford 5000. It was delivered last night about dark. This morning I was checking it out and thats when I noticed it was a 3 cylinder. I have doubts about it being a 5000. The numbers behind starter look like they have been ground off and beat with a punch and ground again. These numbers are on the other side OLO4B AD7OA14 opposite where they are supposed to be[left side]. for the serial number. These numbers are on the right side of engine [cast] c 7nn 6015 ak. [Stamped] D3O6673. I think this tractor was stolen at sometime and was painted yellow. I'm really not concerned about that but I am concerned about getting something that I didn't want. Does anyone know what motor this is ? I bought this tractor off ebay. I've bought 55 items off ebay and this is the first time I've been had. Thanks for your help.

ps.. even the super major fordson ( 5000 diesel ) are 4 cyl...

Agree w/SG. Post pics of ALL crucial prints, i.e. part numbers off of trumpet, tranny, block, under seat, whatever you can find. Highly suggest free use of Photobucket. Post everything you can there, and post folder link here. Let the crew dig. If any legal probs, your post date is evidence. Bad for them, good for you. Also helps w/ Fleabay. Dispute within certain time grants certain rights, re-read carefully your agreement.

Rule#1 on Fleabay-If you cant afford to throw that $20, $50, or whatever $$$bill away....caveat empor....Then why spend before you see it yourself. It's called right of inspection for a reason. Then refusal is always an option.

Everyone everywhere on the Net is safe and honest.
Really????!!!????

Do you know who is the biggest fool at the business table is? If you cannot identify, then look in mirror. Any deal, anywhere, this rule applies. CYA is rule #1 in all business for a reason.

See what you're recourses are immediately and start the ball rolling. Complain first to Fleabay, then cool down (retract) later. Get the pics up ASAP so brains here can help identify issues.

Post back evry bit of way. Keep this gang updated, and if no satisfaction, DO NOT HESITATE TO IDENTIFY PERPETRATOR.

Best of luck, hope it all works out.

Get a picture of the tractor, from the rear, with the camera focused between the PTO shaft and top link rocker. That shot will determine wether it's a 3 cylinder or 4 cylinder chassis to start with...

There is also a date code stamped on lower front flange of engine, right hand side, and on top of rear end housing flange below the seat. That will tell you the year mfd and possibly the model number based on year of manufacture. Is the decal still under the hood?

In 1975, even some 2000 industrials used the 4000 style rear end, but they would have double steering links.

If it seems like a good tractor for the price, you might want to forget about fighting about it.
