What is a Climate Control Compressor?

I have a chance to pick up a Quincy compressor cheap from a closed factory in town. The manual says that it is a "Climate Control compressor". Does anyone know what the difference is between a climate control compressor and a normal shop type compressor? They look the exact same to me. Can I use this in my shop just as I would a normal one?

Thanks

It is from a pneumatic climate control system that uses a system of air lines to and from the thermostats to the damper motors steam/hot water valves, etc..

IIRC, those compressors are typically up set to operate in the 60-to-100 psi range. What you can do with it will depend on the tank ratings, and range of the pressure swutch.

I was given one of these units many years ago and I am just now getting around to hooking it up. ("Good things take time", you know!) Quincy Compressor is in Quincy Illinois. Google them to get their address, etc. (or email me and I will give it to you) Great people to deal with. They will give you as much assistance as you might needy. The compressors are nice units and almost any of the parts you might need are still available.

O.K. I use these compressors in my job. Most of these will have an extra oil ring in them. The main difference between the two compressors is a climate control compressor is designed to pass less oil into the air supply. Oil and moisture are the main causes of problems in a pneumatic HVAC control system, as in thermostats, dampers, etc. Hope this helps you out.

Sometimes they will have a larger pump being turned very slowly by a small motor, and cut out will be very low, at around 50-60 psi (fully adjustable). This setup results in a long life, quiet compressor, but you may want to put a bigger motor on it. If it's a duplex unit, you might just get away with running both at once, if your electrical service is up to it.
