What is the red lever on the side of hood?
Ad doesn't have a picture of that side of
tractor.

I think that's something sticking out of the ground, the tractor is just parked by it. In the first picture it's in front of the axle, in the second it's alongside the left side.

handyman highlift jack, seems to be holding the front end up

Could be the front tires have a problem holding air and the owner thought he'd sneak that fact by viewers by using that jack.
