I have one of those sets that is very similar. It was my Father's. The tips that look like a tweezer drawn together by a thumb screw are tips for ink drawing. Truely a lost art. Pretty far cry from today's CAD/CAM.

I have that exact set, got it from my Dad. Made by TACRO in Germany.

Full set with both lead holders and ink nibs.

Mechanical drawing/drafting by hand is indeed a lost art. I still dabble once in a while just for old time's sake.

You must be young.young, young.I mean that in a good way. There was a time when every high school kid had a set in the Drafting class. They still make them but the container is plastic.Last one I got at a sale for five bucks. Not worth alot because there were millions made.Still useful for laying out and drawing.

I would do more research on this plane.Ive seen some valuable ones on Antiques Roadshow. It looks homemade but that could be good to a collector.Or keep it.

Being a retired drafting teacher, I have seen the change over from the sets, like you have,to CAD. The old hand drawn plates take too much time to do now. In your set, you are missing a large set of dividers, a small set of dividers, a parts tube, and a flat metal screw driver. The tweezer like pieces are for drawing with ink and should never be closed completely, but left with a gap on them. That set was produced in the 50's and came from Germany. I have several sets in my collection.

It's a drafting set. I sold them at an office supply while working part time going to college. I bought mine in the mid 70's. Still have it in fact. Lots of the better drafting equipment came from Germany not so long ago.

yes a young 75.and school kids in my school carried a pocket knife.we were taught the triple Rs readin riten and rithmatic.i was born and raised on afarm and was eleven yrars old before we had electric we didn't have time to study nor know what drafting was. the only drafts we knew were in the winter coming through the side of the house, even our draft horses were just hosses lol bob

That tap and die set looks old and obsolete,
it may not be safe to use anymore. I"ll trade you
for a brand new set from HARBOR FREIGHT !!
