Rotary-Hoe. Pull fast throws weeds out, must have established crop or they will be thrown also. I have not had any first hand experence with them. jr

It called a "rotary hoe. All I have seen come in sections, and are joined to make the width you want, maybe 3 or 4 sections. They are pulled at fairly fast speed, say 3rd gear on a 4 speed. They break up the top crust after a rain to help plants emerge. I soft ground, they will flip out small weeds. Not used in no-till. The tow behind type ( most ) will do damage to a road, my dad hauled his on a sled, back in the 50s. Today most are cut up, and the wheels used for art.

Yes it's a rotary-hoe. I first pulled one with a 1936 JD-A. Being only 10 yrs old [1958] and able to drive in high gear across the field was a real thrill even if it was probably only about 5 mph. You had it go "fast" or it wouldn't flip the ground up. We used the hoe in corn before it was tall enough to cultivate. It did a nice job on small weeds. I never could figure out why the corn could stand it but the weeds couldn't though.

My neighbor is scrapping this week. He has a rotary-hoe wide enough for 2 rows. It's three point. Contact me if interested, other wise it will be scrapped sat.

I have a 3-pt one that must be 5 feet wide. As with a disk (harrow), you can weight them with concrete blocks.

I don't think I have seen someone using one of these in a field for some years. You're more likely to see the individual wheels welded to a piece of rebar, painted with rustoleum, decorating a driveway entrance like steel sunflowers.
