Bought a compact tractor on c/l and the guy threw in some stuff he wanted to get rid of. I have no idea what this is. The only lettering I see says "not for lifting".

that looks like a pallet grabber. for grabbing a pallet on a tractor trailer and pulling it to the rear for fork truck access. ive also seen a version of that for pulling small trees and brush.

When I worked in a large manufacturing plant that built air compressors (CPT) , I drove towmotor ; we used those pullers for dragging pallet loads of shipments off of large trailers . It appears someone may have welded extra points on the jaws for bigger bites . Yes , occassionally they would slip off an extremely heavy loaded pallet .I could actually use them , so let me know by email if you wanta sell . In my arsonal , I have a set of steel plate clamps for lifting heavy plate , a set of log hooks for handling firewood . I'm always looking for means of handling or moving heavy objects . Just remember , they are labeled Not For Lifting for a SAFETY reason . HTH ! God bless, Ken

I have something similar(without the sissor action) that was used to hoist bags of feed and flour up to a loft back in the old days
Was def used for lifting.

I saw these in Northern Tool catalogue, they're also used for pulling out brush and shrubs. Never used one, so I cannot comment on how they work.

Pallet or skid puller is the correct answer. Not for lifting is a good ides if it slips. When a trailer load showed at the warehouse some pallets would be the wrong way around. Hook up that puller to a forklift and just back up. They are pretty tough. You could put it on flea bay if you don't want it.

The unit for pulling small trees or brush has a different style jaw, I have one of those.
