what i thought would be a simple process has became bit more involved and i need some help identifying my friends tractor. I think it's a TO 20 these are the numbers i have found. on the plate under the steering wheel a the bottom of the plate 81264. on the plate on the left side of the engine 43327A. casting marks on cylinder head are Z120A-601, 10848, and a lone number 2. my major concern is that while looking for a cylinder head i discovered there is an 80mm version and a 85mm version i don't know what this means and dont' want to get the wrong head. thank you for your help, dan

If it were a US built tractor, Serial Number 81264 would be a 1952 TO30, buit that would have a Continental Z129 engine.

I suspect you have a 1949 UK built TE20, which had the Continental Z120 engine.

You can check a number of differences. The TE20 data plate on the dash in front of the steering wheel should state "Harry Ferguson Limited, Coventry UK", whereas the US tractors should show "Harry Ferguson Inc". The TE20 has two hood handles, one each side under the dask. The UK built tractors had aluminum aloy transmission cases; US built tractors had steel transmission cases.

[i:97b846feb4]"....i discovered there is an 80mm version and a 85mm version i don't know what this means and dont' want to get the wrong head"[/i:97b846feb4]

The "[i:97b846feb4]80mm version and a 85mm[/i:97b846feb4] (cylinder bore) [i:97b846feb4]version[/i:97b846feb4]" relates to the UK built TEA20, which has an engine built by the Standard Motor Company in the UK, not Continental in the US. The head off a Standard engine will not fit a Continental engine.

I'm sure someone here will give you suggestions of where to start looking for a replacement head.

Dan,

I am 99% confident that you have a Ferguson TE-20.

In front of the 81264 should be printed the letter TE.

For Bob and others. The TE has the SN at the bottom of the ID plate as described here. The TO-20 has the SN at the top of the ID plate.... now hows that for esoteric info?

The Cont. Z120 engine is also consistant with the TE-20. This said, Disreguard the 80mm and 85mm bore information as Bob said that is for the Standard Mo. Co. engine.

You can look for a head from either a TO-20 or a TE-20 as these tractors have the same engine.

Please verify that you have a TE-20 or a TO-20 by telling us how the hood is unlatched? with 2 "T" handels or a single lever?

Jeff

Ah, Jeff - how would I know that? :D

Never seen a TO20 - none in Australia - and everything I know about them comes from reading the authoritive and informative posts you guys make on this forum!

Here is a data plate off a TE/TEA20:

From the reported number of cracked Continental blocks, Dan shouldn't have any problems finding a replacement head for his TE20.
