What John Deere combine!

I’m new to the combine forum, but was hoping to get some advice! I want to find out what was the first John Deere combine to utilize true hydrostatic drive. I want to use an older JD unit to make into a snow blower. I did see that a 7700 was used in an article on the Farm Show web site. Has anyone on here done this? Also I live in central upstate New York if you know of a combine in the area. Thanks for your time.

First Deere combines with hyrdos were 105, 95, 55, and 45's. As I believe the first year of the "hydraulic drive" was '65 but I might be wrong.
If you do find a hydro of this vintage please don't cut it up to make a snow blower, they are pretty rare.

I have a '69 55EB gas hydro with 2600hrs.

Reed, you are "close"..:) The first year for "hydraulic" (hydrostatic) drive was 1964. Also, 45's never had this option. Only the three bigger machines. I am looking for a 55 hydro now. Mike

Thanks for the corection on the year Mike. Going to have to go back and re-read my Two-Cylinder mags and refresh my memory on the year changes.
I wouldn't trade my 55 for nothing, that 303 is a great running motor and then top it off with the hydro, as they say "it don't get no better"
I would like a 105 diesel hydro w/QT feeder house to park in the shed next to the 55.

Mike has it right about when they started with hydros,55,95,105. A easier model to use is the IH 715. The hydro unit on them is a pump on the motor and then the drive unit on the transmission. You can just have big hydraulic hoses made to link the two. So you can position the motor in more places. The JD units you will have to belt drive them as they are all an integral unit. Then you have the problem in getting the drive for the blower. You would need a big right angle gear box. I have seen several IH used. They turned the motor so it set front to rear than you just make a belt tightener and shafts to run the blower.

Actually the 55 and 95 hydros had the hydro unit mounted on the engine, right on the output shaft. No belts were used, just the line down to the tranny. 105's had a belt drive with the hydro unit down below.

The combine/snowblower sounds like one of those great ideas that is not too practical. You've probably already got a tractor; why not use it? If you don't have a tractor, then you would sure need one around your farm more so than a modified combine. If you don't like backing up there are ways of mounting them on the front for certain models.

I have a 69 105 diesel with quick attach and hydro that is for sale. Also have a decent 16' quick attach header with a Hiniker floating cutter bar. The machine is shedded. we cut beans with this machine in 09. Need the shed space.
