WHAT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GBD AND A GTBD ?
I HAVE A 1954 GTBD WITH A DIESEL,CAN'T FIND ANY MANUALS OR ANYTHING ON LINE FOR IT , CAN'T FIND DECALS OR ANYTHING FOR A GTBD ? PLEASE GET BACK TO ME WITH INFORMATION YOU MAY HAVE...

The engines are very similar, 425 cubes, but I believe the GTBD was rated at 1100rpm and the GBD at 1300rpm. The biggest difference is probably the rear ends, in the ring and pinion gears to be more specific. The GTBD has a slightly faster 15/50 ring and pinion (used on G, GTB & GTC tractors), while the GBD uses the 13/46 set. The rest of the transmission gears and bull gears are all the same. They slowed things down slightly for the GBD to compensate for the faster rated engine rpm. Interestingly enough, the GBD gearing was carried through the GVI, G705/706 and G707/708.

We have a guy who pulls a GTBD in our area and he's done the overbore with G900 pistons to make 451 cubes. It pulls really good.

My friend Jake is going to build a GBD this winter in similar fashion, so it will be very interesting to see how it does too.

How many cubes? You could get 605 pretty quick with a 6 inch crank (from a power unit) and G1000 diesel pistons. I think the 6" six cylinder cranks were stronger than the 4 cylinders. I always wanted to stroke my UB diesel but I was always told I might break the crank. The UB diesel has still won lots of pulls in the last 10 years and I have had lots of fun with it.

bull gears and bull pinions are differnt between a G and a GB. G is 15 and 60 GB are 14 and 61.

I am thinking that in addition to everything else mentioned, the GBD would have disk brakes on the final drives and the GTBD would have drum brakes on the axles. (Then again I may be wrong.)

I am thinking that pullers prefer the disk brake setup on the GBD because it is lighter.

425 diesel oversize pistons are not available. Either go to 504 cylinders and pistons or order G900 diesel 451 pistons which are 1/8" oversize.
