I attended a local club pull today to check out rules and ask a few questions. I was interested in there improved 5500 and 6500 class. After talking to two board members they told me this. I can run a M at unlimited governed rpm and ground speed, UNLESS, a two cylinder JD is entered then i would be limtited to 3mph. 5 of 7 boardmembers pull JD,S. Politcs is more competition than pulling itself. goofy rules equal no pullers. I will look into another group. I am in SE. Minn.

Unfortunatly this is the all too common norm. Just about every club out there has exceptions just for the green tractors. It is sad how the line between right and wrong is very clear until it gets to the green tractors and sometimes the reds and then it starts to get bent and manipulated. Enough complaing i say run what you brung in what weight class you weigh in at.

I think they should up the years at lest to 1970 era back then the folks that like john deeres will have a chance for they can have as many cylinders as the rest.

I still believe in the factory RPM setting plus 10%. That keeps Farmall under 2000 RPM and JD under 1400 RPM. For safety sake, keep flywheels in one piece!! Don't need anyone getting hurt by someone's tractor coming apart. Exception-open class is run what ya brung as long as you make weight!!

Sounds like green was loosing to many pulls. Not a very good way to promote pulling I don't think.

Dave were was this pull at
it seems the boys from the southern mn want only the john deere boys to show up if thats the case mabe they should just say it,s only for them
so the rest of us we can select where else to spend our time entry and fees
the last pull i was at was no 1959 IH 460 or 560 unless its a a jd 730 or 830

I've seen alot of John Deeres win so I really don't think how many cylinders as alot to do with it. Heck a G has over 412 CI in 2 cylinders. 1850 Oliver diesel only has 354 in 6 cylinders. How many JD's lug down and just stop spinning the tires and die? Not many.

Just for the record though, I have a Super 88 Oliver that I like to pull in open class in 3rd gear just because I can go faster. Doesn't really pull better but it's fun. Open classes around here are normally 6-8 mph and the Super Stock and farm are 4 mph.

Had some guys show up with open class Jd's and the promoter decided to do open at 4 mph because the Deeres were in it. If that class has the same speed limit as the others why bother building an Open class tractor??? Needless to say I put it in 3rd and disqualified myself ( I told them I was going to, it was fun).

I guess I'm saying that if the Deeres can't run that fast or whatever then put them in the other classes. Same for an other brand really but since Deeres are the ones this post was talking about I used that

To me i like to see different methods of getting down the track within a class. It makes it so much more interesting for everyone. speed VS. torque, in most cases they will end in a competitive distance. If not someone is in the wrong class and deal with that accordingly. Here, stock is 2.5 mph. Fast class is 3.5 mph.

58 or newer is limited to farmstock only. Pine Island , Don,t get me wrong, alot of good people in the group, I just don't see the good time look on people's faces. like they used to. I may check out some dyno class pulls in Wisc. Run what you brung as long as you are not over HP limit at 540 pto speed. Any coming up in near future in Winona to Red Wing area?

harvestmoonpuller , your right ! ALL stockers the same weight run the same rules!!!!! {run you color} live and die with the choice of the brand you made,, I get beat by putt putt's once in awhile and put many JD'S on the trailer with my poor little MOLINE maybe I should get a break for yellow paint BOB

Why not just have your OWN pulls and tell the JD's to stay Home..??
Probably wouldn't bother them much,,,
I don't see many JD's with Custom-Made ALUMINUM platforms, seat-mounts and steering-supports..
Myself, I LOVE to attend plowing events where you actually HAVE to put your power to the ground..!!
That sure separates the "Pullers" from the "Farm Tractors"..!
Maybe you need a new class--"HOT-STOCK"..???
For the tractors with Racing Mills for engines..?
I go to pulls to experience the tractors Working..no matter who wins, but I can't stand to see such things as a JD "R" placed in a Turbo-T/A Class..saw that at Mt Gilead and never went back..
You have to bring a crowd, or there won't be any $$$ to keep pulling..or am I wrong..?
Ron.

Just wondering, Ron why are you on this site if you don't like pulling? I've seen you on here several times. And you are right plowing events are fun.

Just curious.

Jim

Bushhog, Your reasoning is hard to follow. Never heard anyone tell the JD's to stay home. Aluminum platforms, racing mills, & something about "Pullers" from "Farm 'Tractors". Do you have to enter plowin' events to be a real puller? 500 cube "M's" don't enter plowing events, but neither do 1100 cube "G's". And I've never seen a JD "R" pull with the turbos! I have, however, seen a 1100 cube "G" pull in a 3.5 mph stock class( club members dominated by 2 cylinder die-hards that are still in denial that JD abandoned the 2 cylinder design). I do understand that we have to have a crowd to keep pullin'.

Yes, you need to bring a crowd, pullers and fans. I guess my thoughts are that if you create some drama on the track(competition) that is, you will bring folks to watch. Which in turn will bring more pullers. Easier said then done. But, when told rpm limits at 10% over are enforced on improved tractors. It makes it difficult to believe that there are 15 pullers in a 50 mile radius that can afford to build a 500 cube M to go 5 miles an hour. It seems more likely that 15 pullers can build a shroud and side curtains for safety and put on a show. The more colors the better. I should try to get on the board. but with all that green that would be a pretty tough. They are allowing a 11,500 and 12,500 hot stock though. A crowd pleaser for sure.

Yea, they pulled that little "trick" on us at Mt Gilead a couple-a-years ago..eliminated the 7,500 class the "R" would have been in and tossed it into the class allowing turbos and T/A's..
The old Gal did herself Proud, only about 50 feet too short (226ft)...not bad for a 45 HP tractor..!
I do like pulling..I don't see why, if a fella builds for a high horse-power class, that he would ever want to pull in a 3.5 mph class..
You cry about the "JD Die-Hards", but seems to me, all the tractors competing are of the same age..I don't complain if a fella pulls a "20" Cockshut and it punies-out..we get to see all the Brands pull..!
I know there are some pretty strange "rules" out there, but limiting the speed just because of a JD is pretty hard to accept..
We knew about AC WD-45's 50 years before the "Pullers" found out about them..but to put 38" rear wheels on one and strip it and "Hard-Block" one is in NO WAY a stock AC..
I guess I like mine just as they ARE..ready to go to the Field...!!
"Hot Stock" sounds like a truly representative class for all modified, lightened, altered or massively over-sized engines...

Bushhog, I think we already have "Hot Stock" - Division IV/V, 12 mph super antique or open gear outlaw.
Might be wrong on this, but wasn't the Allis D17 the only pre 1960 farm tractor that came with a turbo option & some molines that had the "altitude compensator"?
