What was I thinking?

I just love dirt work! I had my own tri-axle for two years but sold it in late '07 when construction stopped. After that I drove part time for two brothers who had hired my truck a lot previously. Im also operater dozer and excavator and Chinese Grade-all.Those were good times! Put me up and I will come up and help. and I am only 77.

I like this work but it's getting tough to do it with my back problems, I hurt my back originally in 2011 in a truck accident, compression fractures. I was able to do everything I needed up until last summer it got worse, Spinal stenosis with my collapsed vertebra so I'm in a considerable amount of pain most of the time. While dealing with this I discovered I have stage 3B kidney decease so I can't take a lot of pain med to deal with that...I sense my dirt work is nearing the end. But if I hang on I may be calling on you..lol

I had a 55 Chevy pickup that my dad bought new. I didn’t have the money to restore it so I gave it to my grandson. His father is supplying the money and all three of us are doing the work. I’m 78 so I get tired quickly lol.
What a memory maker you and his Dad are, a 55 chevy, what a dream for your Grandson and he got to do it with Gramps and Dad. gobble

Get those knees replaced ASAP! I have had 10 surgeries for age related repairs. I try to keep pressing on, but I haven't been in a car wreck either. I have totaled some snowmobiles in wrecks, but I had to give that up four years ago due to cold feet and hands problems.

I'm 70yo with a bunch of heavy equipment and a couple trucks I use in the summer months for my dirtwork. I'm lucky to have a son that helps me with the heavy lifting anytime I ask, He's 49yo with a wife and two teenage daughters and a Truck sales manager for Freightliner/WesternStar and 90 miles away from me so I try not to ask him for much of his time. I'm also dealing with compression fractures in my lower back from an old accident. I'm seriously considering pulling the plug on my operation end of the season this year. I just don't know what I'll do with my time after that. So often I hear about people my age and eve younger sometimes retiring and next time you hear about them they've died.
If you do not have a hobby it is hard to stop working and then quit. You sit and do nothing. Take laryon the corner guy, he likes working with wood. I do as well and my dad told me the other day he was glad I enjoyed it as when I get to his age and have nothing to do time just takes for ever. He likes his cows but he says this is the last year. To much for his old body with heart issues.

Thanks for the suggestion, I know no matter what I do...I'll need something to occupy my time. Working for myself most of my adult life kept me busy sometimes even more than I cared to be, but I always found a way. I'll find a way to stay busy in a retired situation I'm sure. Thanks again.

Who knows? When I retired people asked how I would keep busy. A 10 acre farmette, a camper, a dirtbike, three grandkids, a ton of books to read. Not sure how not going to work for 8 hours a day was going to leave me bored.

Some years later, at age 76 we are now greatgrandparents and I still bale some hay, use the camper, ride my dirtbike, etc. Last year we got a 1937 John Deere B.

Luckily, no real health problems.

No long list of projects, but not bored.
