What would you do

I have a Ford 860 tractor and last year it blew a head gasket. I had the head shaved and put it all back together and in time there were tiny bubbles around the gasket. I have been told to leave it alone and others told me it would blow again if it weren't fixed.You people seem to know quite a bit about these type problems, so what would you do?

We did that,we torqued at 65 ,let the motor get hot and then torqued at 70, still showed tiny bubbles and then retorqued at 75 and bubbles were less but still there. The correct torque is 70.

Did you put the gasket the right side up?

I would use three tablespoons full of ground fine ground black pepper in the radiator. Believe me, it gets into and plugs minor leaks pretty well. If it is not leaking coolant beyond the small bubbling, I would run it. JimN

Did you put a plane on the block? The head can be perfect, but it that block is not right it will not seal right...just my 2 cents.....

Are you sure your torque wrench is calibrated properly?

I 100% agree.
I wonder if they reused the old head bolts and didn't chase the dirt/rust out of the block threads?
Wet or dry sleeves or investment cast block? Uneven sleeve protrusion is a sealing problem looking for a place to happen.

Bill, never checked the block, Rob the gasket was put on correct, Blue, not sure about the torque wrench being calibrated correct, Buick-Deere, did use the old head bolts and just wiped them off but didn't clean them with any solvent and not sure about the sleeves.

I ran the tractor all summer and probably lost 1/4 to 1/3 cup of water from the radiator total. I have to put a new radiator on the tractor and since I have to take the hood completely off , I thought I would try to fix the problem with the head gasket but if I knew it wouldn't hurt anything ,I'd leave it alone.

I have an Oliver 88 diesel that's been doing that ever since I could remember.Hasen't gotten' worse or better,doesn't affect performance.

Call your Ford dealer. They will most likely tell you to put in a can of Barrs leak and forget it. The fellow I bought my first Oliver 1850 from had the head surfaced twice to try to stop water seep from between the head and block. He told me on the phone he would sell it as is. I called the Oliver dealer and he told me that it was common and that Oliver had sent the dealers a notice to put in a can of barrs leak after putting on a new head gasket. I did just that and it never gave a problem.

Bought a used truck, recently overhauled Cummins.
It put out little bubbles too. As I ran it, it dried up.I was happy. One time I put power cleaner in the fuel. That started it leaking/bubbling again. I guess it was sealed? by carbon/soot. Watch oil and coolant, run it.
