What's your best tractor?

I"m sure there will be some strong opinions on this one.

I have a Farmall 140 a New Holland TN60A, a Ford 1310 and a John Deere 4020.

The New Holland TN 60A is my best tractor. It runs great has plenty of power and is very well built. The only thing I don"t like is it"s loud enough so I wear ear plugs when using it.

So whats you best tractor?

For the money, my favorite for power is my
Oliver 2255-4wd. The most enjoyable to use
is my Oliver 1850.
Due to the times, I have worked on a few
John Deere's. Anything from the 55 series up is
hard to beat. The last 4960 I used after fixing
drove better than my Buick. Lots of torgue, quiet
nice shifting, etc.
But do not buy one unless you have an extra ten
to fifteen thousand set aside. If something bad
goes wrong, the money will disappear like some
of my posts.

Depends on what I am do'n, but I can say it's a ford. I would not want to plow tobacco all day with the 9600 and it'd be a long day pull'n a chisel plow with the 960. The one that gets used the most and racks up the most hours year round is the 6700.

Like kyplowboy, it depends on what I'm doing, but my best/favorite is also a Ford. If I have to pick just one of the ones I have, it would probably be the 7600. Reliable, efficient, plenty of power for most jobs, and a better than average cab for the time it was built.

You know over the years I have had a good many tractors and no one tractor I have had will do it all. Some are good for one thing but poor for another job. Some fit in places that others will not but are not big enough to do the job in other places. Only way a guy can have a best tractor is to own 5 or more that way he has one to fit ALL the jobs if he is lucky, well better make that 10 tractor or is that 15 or 20 hard to say how many one would need to have one for every job

My 7600 Ford gets more hr. the next is a 4000 Ford. The 7600 will do a lot of small jobs but if it must one or two turns on a screw, 90 HP and it doesn't mind it at all over 10000 hrs.

Hmmm, mine would be one of the 7 series Fords. Right now I've got 5 of them and a 5600. As to which one, probably the 7710. Its got cab and heat, supposed to have air but its a guessing game on any given day if it will keep the belt on or not and a loader. As to the others, there's a pair of 7600's one with 7800 hours and one with 15,350. Then there's a pair of 7610's. One with cab and loader, and the air works on it the other is a low profile orchard model with a creeper transmission.

But, as to what I use the most in terms of single hours without a doubt its the Case 1845C skid loader. It probably gets triple the hours of any other single power unit.

That's a real toss up. I've got a lot of them around here, but the Oliver 77 and Oliver 1850 are just good dependable bullet proof old everyday users. Just depends on how big of a job I have to do.

It's a toss-up! Depends on the job at hand!

Cockshutt 570 Diesel. Starts very easy in cold weather, easy on fuel ,good power, good brakes power steering, nothing purrs as smooth as a hercules.Man I wish they still made them.

If I had to pick one out of the whole group out back to do everything with. It would be the 4430 Deere. Doesn't really excel at any one thing, but I can use it to do everything.

I would second you on that. Only better is maybe a 570 super. Easy to shift, lots of power, decent weight and probably the best transmision rearend made for that size of tractor. Next to it, my 550 is my favorite, Smooth hercules 198, with a an awesome pull for it size and horsepower.
Enjoy your cockshutts - I have 10 of them now. 20 deluxe, 35 L deluxe 70 standard, 540, 550, 570 super, and 3 30's 2 of which run.

The world's best tractors are these, in no particular order:

Ford 8N
Farmall A
McCormick-Deering 22-36
John Deere A

Why you ask? Because those are the tractors that I own!!!

gotta go with the oliver 1655 although im partial to the green. Is useful for lots of jobs around the farm especially for haying. The rowcrop setup is very comfortable and easy to see from.

Green Ones:

JD compact with loader to do most of the work
Olvier fleetlines to have the most fun

Does that make me bi-traxial?

430 Case Diesel is Favorite daily runner , However depends on the Job as to which is my favorite ,, I like the 800 Case with the 489 NH haybine ,, I like Raking with the VAC Sqaure Baling with the SC ,Roundbaling with the JD 4020 P/shift,, Doing tillage work with the 1070 Case,,Planting with the DC ,,YANMurry hauls manure ....

My Allis 175 diesels (don't tell anybody) but I average $1000 gross profits from every tank of fuel that I run through them....can't beat the Perkins 4.248 engines for economy!

Hard to say, like 'em all. Probably put more hours on my 44 John Deere B than anything. Spend most of the winter haulin' wood with it.

Back in the early 60's M y neighbor traded a MM
UB in on a new 4010 J.D. I knew how Pickey he was about his equipment about how he took care of it. I went to J.D dealer and bought the old UB. He had put char-len power steering, a JD
rolla-matic front end under it and a homade muffler on it that made it so quiet, you could hardle hear it run. It also had factory Propane.
I ran JD's at the time but I loved to drive the old moline. When I retired from farming in 1986
I ran 4440 JD's, but my fondest memories are of the old Moline.

I love my WD-45 wide front based on the fact that it's the most dependable piece of equipment on my farm and it's been working here since before I was born. On the other hand, my WD-45 narrow front is the biggest pile of junk I've ever used, so there's that. I also like my JD 2950 because it's the least worn-out tractor I have.

MF 150 Diesel that grandpa bought it new in the late sixties and it's still earning it's keep. Everything is still original on it except for one front rim, and the two rear rims. The odometer quit working about six years ago at around 13,000 hours.
