when did ford introduce a live PTO

I've been interested in the ford jubilee series and haven't seen information stating a live PTO available on them. When did Ford introduce the live PTO and on what series. Is it available on the jubilee?

Yes, it was option on Jubilee. Consisted of a small hyd pump mounted on the back end of the real hyd pump where the tach drive cable is located. A hydraulic clutch pack was installed inplace of the splined coupling in the drive shaft. A long lever added to the pto side cover controlled a valve which would disengage the driveshaft stopping the tractor while the pto was left running.

The 600/800 tractors were better than the Jube/NAA for other reasons too.
Better rear axle, better hyd. pumps and a couple of other refinements as well.
But tell me, why do you need LPTO?
Except for a couple of specific uses LPTO is mostly over rated IMO.

If you want "live" PTO you will have to look for a SOS transmission in the x01 series tractors. (Models x71 and x81). The x61 tractors have 5 speed manual transmissions and a 2 stage clutch.

The later 3 cylinder 1000 series tractors can have live PTO, but they can also have transmission PTO too. Depends on the configuration.

The 600/800 are good one but you might also look at the 601/801s also. 600/800 made from 1955 to 1957 and the 601/801 from 1958 to 1962. The SOS and the 660/860 and 661 and 861 all have live PTOs

The x60 tractors (660, 860, 760, 960 - I don't know if they made every one of those!) models had live pto. Which is the same as a 2-stage clutch. The next generation x61 models likewise had a live pto.

The x71 and x81 model SoS tractors might have had an independet pto, which is also considered 'live' by most folks, but does not use the same footlever as the regular clutch....

The SOS does not have "live" PTO- it has "independent" PTO. Live PTO is found in the X6X Fords with the 2 stage clutch. The PTO in the SOS tractors is independent from the transmission and is activated by its own clutch pack- thus its name "Independent PTO".

Independent ... live.... I always seem to get those confused. :? All I do know, is that either is a dern sight better than the ones hard coupled to the transmission!

Ah but isn't that independent PTO the only 100% true live PTO. Oliver or cockshutt came out with the first live PTO and it was in fact independent. To me live PTO is any PTO that you can stop the tractor from moving and still have the PTO running just more then one way to get the same effect. Ford used 2 stage clutch. Allis uses a hand clutch and oliver and farmall used a clutch pack in the PTO system but are they not all live PTOs??

Most folk call all of them 'live', but the term live first meant the 2-stage clutch - 2 different clutches, but one common foot pedal to use them.

When Ollie and the rest came out with the seperate lever to work the pto clutch, it was refered to as 'independent' to signify it was better than the 'live' pto.

As mentioned, either is good, and much nicer than the old single clutch.

The X81 SOS has a 2 speed (540/1000) Independent PTO and a Groundspeed PTO. The Independent PTO is driven by the clutch pack and the Groundspeed PTO is driven by the SOS. There is an Interlock that prevents both PTO drives from being engaged simultaneously.

 Here we go AGAIN! "Live PTO" you can stop and start tractor travel without affecting PTO operation, but you can NOT stop and start PTO operation without affecting tractor travel! "Independant PTO" allows you to stop and start either PTO operation or tractor travel WITHOUT affecting the other! Just one of my "pet peeves", rant over!
