which blade?

I have a back yard that needs to be leveled and de-rocked before I invest in sod. Which blade should my 8N and I use to get the best results? A box blade or a back blade? Thanks!

Well, I guess me, or you, niether one have one, so this is you only chance to buy you one.

You need what they call a root rake.

It has lots of fingers with spaces, you can remove every other one if you need larger spaces for the dirt to flow thru, but still collect the debris.

A few years ago, I built a private airstip. After leveling with a blade, I purchased a King Kutter landscape rake to remove all rocks. It worked perfectly! It worked best when I kept the speed up and angled the rake so it flicked the stones to the side.

It also works great for rounding up the pumpkin vines in the garden!

Andrew, it depends on how big the back yard is and how deep your pockets are. I don't have a box blade, but a neighbor camper has and it works very good in leveling off some two rut roads etc. My way of doing it is to cultivate it with my double bottom plow and/or disc's then drag it with a 10 foot long drag I made with 4X4" wolmanized beams with cross beams angled back and forth with old grader blades bolted to each cross piece. This levels the ground very smooth, then I run the Landscape rake over it to remove any rocks etc that the drag left behind, this also loosens up the top inch or so of the soil again for planting the seed. Plant the seed then I drag it again to cover the seed slightly and let it grow. I end up with an extremly smooth surface that any landscaper would envy. Good luck and Happey New year. Ron

I have both, and the boxblade is best for most jobs. There is really no comparison.Be sure the boxblade has the teeth with it...R.M. In AL.
