Which tires?

I have either 15.5-38 Firestone Field and Road or 15.5-38 Armstrong 30*. Which is the better tire? Both about 30-40% tread.

Just pull it a time or two with both. Then you will know. The truth is there is no clear winner. Most pullers are on firestones. But when conditions are right and you have something different on, you will be the winner. Not just in the top 1/3 of your class. The deal is I took a set of squiggly goodyears to a NATPA regional pull and won. Took the same tires to Casey Il. club pull and came in last! Vic

that beast has so much power it won"t know it has two different tires.. put em on as a set.

I"ve had good luck with my armstrongs and firestones... also had bad luck with both at one time or another...run them both, then which ever tire you find, just make that your set.

I took the constant mesh gear out of the 460 this weekend....so now I have to change that out. hopefully my flywheel will be here soon, so I can do it all at once.

Well I got my butt handed to me at glenford with the m. I wanted to take the a also, but Jared's 70 needed a ride and I didn't think 3 would quite fit on the trailer. I really want to get to adamsville soon but Sunday mornings are hard for me. Jordan won't let me out of church.

I think I will put both on for now and see what happens. I guess there can't be too much difference at 2 mph or however fast it will be in 1st gear.

If your pulling the majority of your pulls on
soft tracks go with the Firestones, harder
clay tracks use the Armstrong...
That's just my 2 cents after 35 years of
pulling!

We have a 37 a that we have run both armstrongs and
firestones on and the firestones are the way to go. Tractor has
won many times against some very tough tractors here in
Michigan and ohio

there is a very simple way to test one tire against the other. mount your favorite set of tires on the tractor and adjust the weight and tire pressure until the tractor pulls evenly and does the best it can do. at that point mount one of the other tires in question on the tractor and begin adjusting tire pressure in the second tire only. keep adjusting pressure until your sure u can not get the tire to pull any better. If one tire is better then the other your tractor will naturally veer left or right toward the side of the lesser tire. for instance, all circumstances being equal a tractor running atfr on the left and f&r on the right will always pull to the right. thus revealing the superiority of the atfr.
