Which topic causes more contention?

Resistor versus no resistor

6V versus 12V

Using a torch in a gas tank

Running into a tree to get out of a stuck gear

Rubber shifter boot letting water in or not

If we could just get a guy that had:

Used the torch on his gas tank after having just run the tractor into a tree to get it out of gear in the rain without the rubber shifter boot, after he had just switched to 12V and didn't use the resistor, wow that would be a message thread to see.

And the contention starts already....... :D

rd99 - you might want to add something in there about the guy wondering what kind of oil he should put in it after he puts just new rings and sleeves in it. :P

Waz them 3 ringers, or 4 ringers, Joe?

0 bat cables vs 4ga.. uh oem orangeish paint vs brick red.. or other color schemes.. grease in the steering box... alternator vs generator ( voltage non-specific ).. to go along with that.. polarity.

EI vs points.. etc..

as far as contention... my vote is on ei vs points..

Soundguy, after the coming EMP Attack points tractors should still run, but forget anything with EI.

how about the ever present ' how big a rototiller will my N run?, or how about using it on the hay baler?

You got that right!!

Yep, we will have our running points tractors, and all of the diesels, and not one thing to put in them.

Oh, well...

It is amazing how few of us alive today have ever seen really hard times, most all of the WWII vets are gone, and you have to have been at least that old to have ever really known hard times.

I still have war ration stamp books that were my family's, my Dad was a WWII vet.

God Bless Us All.

I do have this feeling that before my life is over, we will see hard times again, and I don't spec to have that very many more years.

Also, before he hit the tree, he"d have to be reaching for that little lever under the right side of the seat, what"s that thing for anyway?!

Dang! I can't believe I forgot that one.

Yeah Dunk, I don't figure I got too many more years either because:
1. I've still got my ration stamps - (means I'm OLD).
2. Got prostate CA - took it out but didn't get it all.
Ah well, one day at a time and it's up to the Good Lord and the Cleveland Clinic!!!

Bill, I just hope that you have God there with you, that is about as far as we can take it on our own.

I just hope that I die of something, quickly, other than laying up there in that nursing home for years dying of nothing.

It's a lot better to have enjoyed life, and come in sliding into home, crashing, and burining, than it is to suffer without, and have to eat lettuce, and lay up there for years dying of nothing, JMO.

I hooked the back end of mine to a tree with a 20' chain and drove her as fast as I could go in 20 foot to the end of the chain. After several tries and a good cussin out it came unstuck. I don't recommend this method without the use of a restraint device unless you can hang on tight. That chain don't have much give. I did get tickled at a feller who owns a local tractor shop round here...guy brings in his 8n with a stuck clutch, he gets it off the trailer drives it around back of the shop and runs it into a tree, drives it back around onto the trailer...fixed. I was always curious what the bill was for that service.

When I bought my wore out 49 8N nearly 25 years ago, I bought a brand spankin new Covington bush hog with it, $1500 for the tractor, $250 for the bushog, got a deal.

Priced them ORCs several times over the first few years, and they was always just out of my price range of what I could have, and what I couldn't have.

Nearly 25 years later, I have never used one, had the momentum of the bush hog get me out of quite a few tight places.

Or even bind me up and have to disengage the PTO to git out.

I know my tractor, and it knows me.

I do bush hog a lot on the sides of hills even the pond banks with the rear wheels let out.

It will also bend the steering wheel, radius rod, and make your rib cage hurt like he11 for weeks!

Old, IDIOTS don't impress me, he slid sideways down that hill, and he did that, it had nothing to do with the ORC.

I regularly bush hog a grade that makes that one look like child's play.

You are making you own vendetta out of his inability to know what he was doing, that pic has nothing to do with an ORC.

I have came close to that on the hills around here, I have slid, had nothing to do with an ORC, only ones ability to know when to push in the clutch, and throw the throttle down to none.

That pic has nothing to do with an ORC.

I really wish you could come watch some of the things that I do with an N tractor, and a bush hog, and NO ORC!!

And this hot not so hot topic of how important is it that the the spark jump from center to side or side to center!
The sky's falling!

Dunk if you would read on the first post I showed a picture I said IT HAD AN ORC on it but that can happen if it doesn't. Now as far as the hill you can't really see the hill he slide down in the pictures. That hill is/was even hard for me and my friend to walk up. That tractor slid a good 20-30 feet side ways before the tree stopped it. As far as what you do thats up to you but after you have slid a dozer side ways down a hill or stand a dump truck up on its butt you get gun shy. Or drove a tractor off a trailer and hard it slide side ways and lay over on its side. I'm getting to old to do the dumb things any more and want to live to be as old as my dad was or older

I gotta agree with that JMOR, the govmn't telling us it was "terrorists" when they know dayum well they pulled that off on their own, just to make the pubic opinion accept the war on terrorism, when we all know that it just filled their pocket books with billions that just seem to have disappeared.

If you want to pull wool, do it on someone else, I see with my heart, not my eyes (with the help of my guardian Angels I might add).

Don't even try blowin smoke up my ares, and specking me to believe it.

That wasn't directed at you JMOR, not at all, we agree way more than we dissagree, just seemed to be something that I needed to say.

It's still a code Orange isn't it folks, even after all of those billions of dollars have dissapeared.

Old, forgive me if I am out of line.

I think I went off on a tangent there.

I am very worried about our childrens future.

I have also mixed up 2 different topics, and I know that.

I will regain my composure, ifn yall can just bear with me....

I kinda gotta go with:

IT WON'T START!!! WHAT DID I DO WRONG?!?!?!!?

[Usually not accompanied with any other useful information...]

Second place is the statement presented as FACT: ONLY A "DUFUS" WOULD REMOVE THE BELOVED 6 VOLT SYSTEM AND REPLACE IT WITH A 12 VOLT SYSTEM...

Tsk, Tsk, Tsk...

duey, a happy dufus...

My chariot is about to turn into a pumpkin, a rotten one....

Nighty nite, don't let the bed bugs bite.

Dunk, I always advocate safety first because about 75% of the people now days are lucky if they even know how to drive a tractor let alone what one is. The guy that put that tractor in the tree is from new york city so up till he got on this tractor he had not ever been on one and he got dumb and lucky. When I post I first try to think how to tell a person safety then go from there. I know to many people with 3 or 4 fingers because they goofed or even have one hand cut off or a leg gone because they goofed. Safety safety and then more safety only takes one miss take to make you dead.

Still have a book of gas ration stamps with my name on them also. They issued those for each member of the family. Maybe I'll get around to using them someday.

Warped heads, leaky head gaskets, stripped/broken head bolts, cracked blocks and finally loosened and falling out oil pickup tubes.

" Need help, my tractor will not turn over"
I still contend that, THIS may Help!!!!!!

Should be added to the list!!!!!!!!

I've got a Covington model S bush hog. It has some sort of old style ORC that mostly works, though it sounds horrible. I think covington moved from Alabama to Albany, GA.

I'm still getting used to it, it's a bit frightening.

Sure would hate to go thru life as a head gasket,,, its a scape goat,,, never understood,,, gits the blame,,,, never took seriously,,, hey blame it on the head gasket,,, gotta B I have the craftsman $99 tool set no way i could have fudged it up,,, like a monking bird most all say its bad,,, poor fellow.

C'mon - you all know the posts that irritate the most are the ones where the poster says something along the lines of:

"I got a Ford tractor and it won't run. Any idea what's wrong with it?"

Yeah, I always have to stop my fingers from responding with; "If it won't turn over, then you don't need ROPS!"

I'm a new owner but I think I saw 2 wires hanging out from under my tractor right behind the motor, can I remove them???
(duck)

(quoted from post at 22:43:50 01/03/08) I especially like "The generator is not keeping my new 8 volt battery charged!"

I may be late, but Oh, Well, I am always a day late, and a dollar short (I think I got too drunk last night to maintain).

Why can't I keep my lift at a constant height on my 2/9N?

Can any of you tell me what year mine is off of these numbers off of the block?

Will 8N spindles fit on my 2/9 N?

My axle keeps busting my distributor cap, can I just weld in some stops?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for an N tractor?

I take off my gas bowl on the bottom of the tank, wash it out seal it back up, and it only half fills.

Well, there is NO shame, in not knowing, and being brave enough to ask.

Lots of these things are simple to most of us, but to some new folks, it is like fooling with an alien spacecraft.

And the purpose of this board is for folks that don't know, to ask us that do know.

Shame on us, for having such a good time, at our virgin brothers expense.

But it has been one fun, entertaining, topic!!!

Speakin of ways to cash it in--age accident etc-- I think it would be sorta quick to be shot by a jealous husband when you get to about 86 or so. I still have about 7 years to go..eternal hope never dies hahaha
