White 2-150 Oil Pressure

My brother's 2-150 had water in the oil that was fixed with a new water pump. Now it runs great, with good oil pressure (60 psi) for the first hour or so and then it drops to 27 pounds and holds at that. Any ideas for what is wrong? Can he run it at 27 psi oil pressure.

We have noticed the same problem lately. Low oil pressure once it warms up. Goes from sixty down to around 35 then to 27 or so like ya said. We have kept running it. Perhaps we used the wrong viscosity oil? Never noticed it to run that low before this week.

What is the design spec? 60 psi seems quite high these days. It is recognised that you only need around 5 psi to keep plain bearings apart (but that may be flawed with far closer clearances of modern engines) and it may also depend where the pressure transducer is located.

If it is high and drops off when the oil is hot, I might initially suspect the pressure relief valve or the grade of oil.

Does it have the external oil pump?

If it had water in the oil, the filters maybe plugged with snot from water/oil mixture causing the oil bypass to open. I'm sure there is a lot of sludge left over. I would replace the filters and see what happens then.

It has the external pump. Supposedly those problems were fixed by the time they put these engines in the Whites.

The first 2-150's did not have the external oil pump if I remember correctly. I may have a service bulletin yet that explains the procedure on installing the external oil pumps on2-150's

I always thought the 2-150s all had external pumps, I know the late MMs and Oliver's did, I could be wrong, everyone I've seen has had an external pump.
