Who Makes the Craftsman engine on Sears New snowblowers?
Sears store employee says they cannot find who the manufacturer is, don't understand that? it is an overhead cam, looks kinda like a briggs, but thought they would have their name on it.
Used to be Tec, but their out of business.
Could it be a chinese? Thanks

I have a 10 hp Tecumseh engine on an MTD snowblower. I was never a big fan of their engines but, I couldn't complain about this engine as it got a big workout with all the snow we had this winter. It started easily even with 30wt oil and the primer. I even made about $300.00 blowing snow for the neighbors. Hal
PS: Snow is about gone.

Craftsman engines? OHC engines now? Maybe Chinese copy of the Honda GY6 engine design. Harbor Freight has a couple Chinese engines- smallest 3-4HP derives sort of from Briggs, other is the Honda pattern-6.5-8HP. Quite possible Sears bought the low buck Honda copy- Honda usually picky about having their name on product instead of someone elses. Harbor Freight engines 80/90% mostly decent runners - the ones that don"t work are replaced fairly easy with minimal paperwork. RN

If it's new who knows? Tec is out of business, they sold off the Peerless tranny division and closed up about a year or so ago.

"Step by Step",remember Sears"makes"nothing(but $$),only resells "rebranded" items. Sears model no prefix on Unit will ID OEM mfg.Theres been a scramble for engines to fill the market share void left by Tecumseh, and Briggs,Subaru Robin, Honda, and Kohler seem to be the Major brands choice at present. Can't really see a Major Brand using Asian throwaways, but sadly the world is changing.

Sears employees aren't told who the manufacturers are. They are only told that items are made for Sears, to Sears specifications. Like you've been told, the first three digits of the model # identify the manufacturer, but employees aren't told how to interpret the digits. Employees are only told that the items are Sears items, and nothing more. Their item knowledge pretty much consists of whatever company propoganda they've been furnished with, and it isn't much.
