Wico C mag points.

I have a new set of points that I would like to get installed. Can I roll engine over to open points then remove old and install new then set gap? Or should I have them closed then replace points and reset gap?

Roll the engine over until they are open the full way. Install new points and then use feeler gauge to set gap.

It really doesn't matter where the engine is when you put the new points in. However it does matter where it is when you set the points.

I just put the points in and then roll the engine until the cam on the mag raises the point to the max. Then set them.

Well, I tried for about 30 minutes to get my A going after I installed new pionts. But, NO spark at all. Tried different way. No spark. Re-installed old set. Fired right up..Deerely Departed points sat on the shelf in a box for about 2 months. I guess just a bad set of points..I even tried puting my old points in a still nothing. Tried old condensor still nothing. Oh well, $25 donation.

On the Wico C Points you need to look carefully where the end of the spring is at the post where they pivot, as the spring can sometimes short out to the post ground. If an ohm meter or continuity tester shows them as always closed, they wont fire and that spring end can be where the short is.

I agree with John I have seen a lot C points that touch the frame on the spring end. I would just turn the engine backwards.

John T is correct about the points touching. I have fixed a couple in the last few weeks that people had tried to tuneup themselves and they wouldnt fire after putting in the new points. Both sets came from Dearly Departed or whatever they are called now,I'm sure there is 1 aftermarket supplier for all these wholesalers that is causing problems. On both sets I was able to grind off the corner of the plastic that the spring arm is attached to and they worked fine. They are just a little too long and hang up.
