How do you charge the spring on the impulse coupling on this bad boy? Also how do you check the lag angle?. This mag is mounted on a Hercules IXB3 engine.

I suppose you meant change the spring? No impulse? They rust and do break. You never recharge the magnet with spring or impulse on mag or it won't work right having to demagnetize the impulse to get it right again. A special tool was made to hold the impulse hub while removing or installing spring but you can remove cap and hold shaft carefully in a vise with lead or a rag around it while removing the impulse nut. Then unwind or remove drive cup the spring is in. Since it is a clockwise drive mag from drive end the new spring will wind into the drive cup with outer tang in slot winding in a clockwise direction when looking to the center tang of spring. Look at center and it should be winding inwards in clockwise direction. Put some white lithitum gease on the spring and oil the impulse trip dogs too. Wind the cup back on by pulling center of spring out just enough to catch drive washers slot winding it back on in CW direction one full turn. Wind it "one" turn not a half turn or one and half or it won't work right! The IXB Hercules would use a mag with 15º impulse lag angle. The Wico C-1273B was originally made for a Fate Root Heath engine set a 21º. Impulse lag angle is best checked accurately on a magneto test stand with synchrometer dial but since it's a simple Wico mag and should be only set at 15º for this one the witness mark on the ring in mag you see held down by 4 screws should be just a tad to the right of the center mark. On your mag the center mark represents 13º so just a bit CW or to right side of center would be 15º. Need parts or more help email me.
