winch for car trailer

I'm looking for a electric winch to mount on front of car trailer to haul cars and pickups up onto trailer. Thanks for any Help

I bought the portable one that Reese sells, 2000 lb advertised capacity. It barely outpulls my Maasdam Comealong, but.. a lot less sweat to use. I'd get at least a 4000 lb line pull to drag pickup trucks up with, the 2000 barely will pull an old flatfender jeep up my ramps.As long as I remember it is no more than a battery powered comealong I am fine.It sold for $59 at TSC.. The portability is nice to have. The other thing I would look for is a freewheel that works and doesn't require two men and a donkey to pull the line out with, unlike the Reese.

With out you telling us more info as to what your doing it is hard to help you much. As for where to find them well Wal-Mart has them or at least my local one does as does many auto parts stores and Farm and home stores

I used a heavy duty boat trailer winch, 2 speed hand crank model. It loads easily, I had no cables batteries or wires to worry about ad it was cheaper.

I should add I need the exercise.

Few years ago I was looking for a winch for my trailer. T_Bone recommended the Mile Marker brand. I had never heard of it. So I Googled them, seems as they are very popular with the 4x4 guys. So I bought one from Costco.com, can't remember what I paid for it. Don't asked how I like it, because I haven't used it yet!

I only buy Warn winches. Look on their website, as they have refurbished ones reasonably priced

I bought a 12,000# one from Harbor Freight On Line on sale for about the same price as the 8,000# one. I can use it (I put it on a recerver mount) on the front recerver hitch of my PU, or on the recerver hitch on the front of my trailer, or on the rear recevier hitch on my PU as needed.
