Wiring a Volt Meter on 8N

Negative post to ground
Positive post to switch output (wire that goes to coil). This way it won't stay on when you shut the tractor off.
 
Do you have any particular reason why? You can do whatever you want, it is your tractor and your time and money after all, just curious as to having a reason for switching.

NOTE: When doing a 12V switchout job and using the OEM 6V Coil, you must add an in-line external 1 OHM Resistor to the Coil Circuit as shown. Disregard the extra resistor if you swap out the coil for a 12V Coil, highly advised. Using the Front Mount Distributor regardless if 6V or 12V you must have the OEM Ballast Resistor in the circuit. In 1950 when FORD released the Angle (Side) Mount Distributor, the Ballast Resistor was eliminated.

I think what Tim is saying is that N series tractors have ammeters not volt meters. You certainly can put on a volt meter if you want. If you have an ammeter than wire it per the diagrams provided. If you want a volt meter than we will help you wire that.

From his last post it appears the voltmeter is already there. He wants to hook it up and see if it works.
