We have a TO35. We had a leak in the gas tank, its fixed. We used it and all was well. We had to disconnect the governor to remove the tank, but it is hooked up correctly because it ran and we used it. Now it wont start. Had the battery checked, the battery is good. So, we are not mechanics but we are willing to take it step by step. So what can we start to check to get this old tractor to run again. Any advise will be helpful.

tractor spins check for spark at the points, check for fuel in the lines[screen at bowlmay be clogged]check coil wires from both ignition switch andto the dist.[test light

How about some more info. Does the engine turn over with the starter? If it doesn"t check the battery connections, the cables and the starter Circuit. If it does turn over, check the spark. It should be FAT AND BLUISH-WHITE, the color of lightning. if it"s pinkish yellowish, etc , it weak. Check the points for burning , oil, corrosion, etc, and make sure the point gap is properly adjusted. Make sure all the connections in the primary circuit are clean and tight. Check the timing and the adance function.
If the spark is strong(FAT AND BLUISH-WHITE) then check the fuel delivery. open the plug in the bottom of the fuel bowl on the carb. With the tank valve open, the fuel should CONTINUOUSLY gush out of the bottom of the carb. If it dribbles or is intermittent, there is an obstruction in the line or the cap vent is plugged.Check the screen in the carb fuel inlet connection.

Thanks for the reply. The engine does not turn over. Turn the key, push the button and nothing.
Battery cables in good shape, connections to battery, starter and negative cable, all clean and good. This tractor does not have a alternator, it only has a generator. We also tried to jump start the battery and nothing.

If you are not getting anything i.e. no clicking noise, are BOTH gear shifters in neutral? If they are, put a jumper wire to by-pass the neutral safety switch (MAKE SURE BOTH gear shifters are in neutral!!) on the transmission and see if the engine will crank, if it does you have a bad neutral switch. If that doesn't crank the engine, jumper the starter solinoid(the two heavy cables)if it cranks you have a bad starter solinoid. You could also have a bad starter button, connect an ohm meter to each side of the starter button and check for continuity. There is a chance the ignition switch has gone bad, but that usually is not the case. Hope this helps.

Snce it won"t turn over, try a direct connection from the battery to the starter with a set of jumper cables. BE SURE THE TRACTOR IS NOT IN GEAR! If the starter cranks the engine over, then the problem is in the cables( internal corrsion near the battery terminals?), the solenoid or the wiring to the solenoid or the starter switch itself.
If the starter doen"t turn over then either you have a bad starter ground or the starter itself is bad. it could be as simple as new brushes.

Ok, we got a guy coming over tomorrow to help with the technical stuff and we will be sure to try your tips. I really apprecaite your time and help. Thanks so much.
