Woods RM 90 HP requirements

I have a Woods RM 90, 90 inch finish mower. The owners manual says max HP is 50, but does not tell the minimum HP required to operate this mower. Anyone know?

It will depend upon what you want to mow and how often and how quickly you wish to mow it.

I would think 35 PTO HP+, except in ideal conditions.

Useta poll a C-80 woods with a MF turf 20, which has the same motor as a 135. Mower was a twin spindle mower, not quite a bush hog, but not quite a finish mower. I would say a bare minimum of 25 HP could do it in lower gear.

I have an 84" KK finish mower that my 37 HP Ford 3000 does pretty well with. Gotta keep it mowed regularly though. If the grass gets over about 8" tall the tractor will still pull through it but does not leave a nice cut. Have to mow it twice.
FWIW, I ran a 6' mower for years and was happy with it. Then had a chance to buy this 7' so I did and sold the 6'. One thing I don't like about the wider mower is if your land is not flat like a pool table the extra width will make it scalp even small bumps and mounds.
If I were to go to a 90" I would look for something like a double gang type mower to prevent all the scalping.

We pulled an 84" Land pride finish mower for many years behind an A-C WD that makes around 40 HP. Mowing once a week and about 3" high we could not get out of 2nd gear in the spring. Summer and fall we could run in 3rd. Minimum HP is subjective, how slow a travel speed will you tolerate? If it were me I wouldnt want less than 35 or so. 40-45 would be better. Also sharp blades vs dull blades makes a world of difference in power required on a mower that wide.
