The time has come to replace my workboots after 3 years, they are getting some pretty bad funk to them, theres some pretty good cuts in the leather and the tread is getting worn down pretty good,
What do you guys wear for comfort, these were timberland pro's

Must have steal toe, or whatever they use now. comfort is my main concern

I used to wear Brahmas from Wally World. Cheap but the comfort is alright (I add inserts to all of my boots). The last pair I bought were Wolverines. I like them but the sole is worn away and it did this pretty quick (No, I don't drag my feet. That is a big pet peve of mine).

The In-laws and my brother all swear by Red Wing but I just swear at them when I look at the price tag.

I've been really happy with my Wolverines. They seemed to have shipped their manufacturing for this model overseas though, you have to check the tags for the ones made in the US. There is a noticable difference in quality.

I liked the pair I'm in now so well, that when I couldn't find another pair like them made in the us, I turned to EBay and ordered a pair off there. That worked out good. I just put water repellant on them the other night. When these wear out, the next pair will be ready to go.

Red Wing's.

R.E.M Boot Co in Groton,CT is a good place to start looking.
I get a couple of resoling(s) out of my work boots usually. Wear either Red Wings or Asolo's depending on what I'm doing.

I use to think Red Wing was the way to go, but have been buying other brands lately and they have been easily wearing a lot longer than the Red Wings. Usually only got a year out of the Red Wings and have been getting 2-3 yrs out of others made by Georgia Boot Co. which are a lot cheaper, and I think are actually more comfortable to wear. Red Wings have priced themselves out of the market.

Some of the Redwings are made over seas and the quality is just like what you would expect from over seas.
They used to be top quality but like someone else said over priced and certain lines are made cheap.

Pat,

I've used boots from Mason Shoe Company in Chippewa Falls, WI for about 30 years. They sell lots of different brands. I ones that I've used for the past 10 years or so are Work America brand.

I use them hard on my farm. They usually last about 3 years. They have a guarantee that the sole will not wear out before the tops do. I buy the 6 inch high with plain toe, but they are also available in 8 inch tall, and all of them are available in steel toe. I pay about $100.00 including shipping and handling. I wear size 13.

They have a website and they also distribute catalogs.

Good luck,

Tom in TN

I've been wearing Wolverines for the past ten years. I like the comfort factor, standing on concrete floors for 8-10 hrs a day. We have a Work Shoe Outlet about 3 miles away that handles most of the major brands. The salesman pushed the Wolverines, not the most expensive, but best fit for a 13-4E. I get about 2 1/2 - 3 years per pair. Billy

Red Wings just plain suck DO NOT buy them made in china quality and made in U.S.A. prices I recently bought a pair of the darn things and they aer awfull!!!they are heavy and uncomfortable and even though it says non slip on them they are a real neck breaker on damp cement do yourself a favor and get anything but deadwings

I was at a veterans lunch today and a group of ROTC cadets were there in fatigues. I was admiring their boots. They look well made and comfortable. I wonder if they can be purchased. Probably no steel toe though.

I like my Red Wings. I've worn them for 30 years. Found out they were cheaper in the long run than the super cheap ones from Wal-Mart.

I have heard folks say that some of them are now made in China, so I probably won't buy them when my current pair wears out.

I go out of my way (and usually deep in my pocket) for the Made In USA label.

My boots last me a long time, now that I'm retired.

It seems like redwings or wolverines, I wish i could try them on before a bought them, Most stores do not cary size 14 though

Wolverines. These are not steel toe but are Soooper comfortable. And Comfort is the main thing for me. They are the Wolverine with cushy rubber sole, Made in the Dominican republic. (not as good as the USA but Way better then Made in China)

I also have flat feet, (flat as a board) and I can stand all day in these at a bridgeport.
I would wear these to bed if the wife let me.
My Wolverines were $90.

I've got Red Wing pull on boots, like wellington, made in the USA , 3rd pair, excellent. Had a pair of herman survivors, from wal-mart, made in china, similar style,to my suprise they were good boots, but I didn't like it that they were made in china.
Hard to find good boots, hope red wing keeps making some in the USA

I have seen these advertised and they have a website, www.kenetrek.com

But are they comfortable? For $330 they better be, looks like a great hiking boot.

Go try on as many as possible. Feet vary greatly. What fits / feels good to one person might feel terrible to another. (Timberland run big/loose on me)I have flat feet but have had good luck in the past 4 years with a couple of pairs from Cabela's. Wear them 5 days a week doing forestry / nursery work, all kinds of surfaces, dirt and slop. (I live near one of their stores, otherwise online/mail is only option - very good return/service policy) Do not have to add any extra insoles, etc. And the sizing is pretty true, even though most of their footwear is imported. Pretty good selection of steel /safety toe models and the 'dry plus' system they use is good. Prices can vary but a 6" pair I bought last week ran $80. I don't work for or have any financial interst in Cabela's.

I recommend trying a pair of Chippewa boots. They seem to last the longest for me working out in the fields and greenhouses. There some of the most comfortable boots I've had and there soles are stitched on so they don't peel off like the glued on one.

I have a pair of georgia"s and hate em, they are the most uncomfortable boot ive ever worn. I had a pair of justins before that and 2 pair or wolverine durashocks. The wolverines were comfortable but the justins were comfortable and lasted 2 years.

We were furnished Lehigh safety boots & their dress safety shoes. The truck came in and measured your feet. I needed 3X wide and they had them. Hal

You won't regrett the Wolverines. Try the style 311, they are made of Pigskin, waterproof, lined, and have 200 grams of Thinsolate. They are the only boots I've ever been able to wear out of the store and go straight to work in (done it many times over the years)without a break in period of hurting feet. The lining and insulation tend to keep the heat out in the summer and keep the heat in in the winter. Sounds strange I know, and I thought it was BS when I first heard it, but I've been wearing the same style of nearly 10 years and love them. During the summer my feet tend to stay drier and I've had less incidences of atheletes foot, and during the winter I don't have to wear two pair's of socks unless it's extreemly cold. Too with being waterproof my feet have never been wet unless I stepped in water that was just too deep.

As for finding them try online. I've bought them both online and in the stores and with many places offering free shipping the prices are usually about the same either place. If ordering them online I've found they tend to run pretty much the same size wise as most other quality, brand name boots so just order your normal size and you should be OK.

Here's a link to their store locator.

I wear out a pair a year AT LEAST and the best I have found now are Red Wing steel toe loggers...205 bucks (with company discount), non insulated. ALL others have moved to china and make pure squat junk. When RW moves....I will wear out a pair a month I guess. I used to swear by Wolverine....last pair I had was a piece of dog squeeze.

The Mason"s were great until about 2 years ago when they switched to China. I had bought 8 or more pair of the identical style and size over the years and once they moved, the size changed and they last about half as long. I switched to Red Wings and like them so far. They seem to last longer, but they were over twice the price.

I have a pair of like 10 year old wolverin wellingtons, wore them maybe 2 times....how do you keep your socks up in those???????? drove me nuts so they went right into the closet.

Started out wearing Redwings several years ago, but got away from them for awhile. I am back now and intend to stay. I'm tired of the inferior quality of the imported junk.

Most career military folks throw away the issue boots made under low bid contracts to DOD and order Danner boots from the Manufacturer near Ft Lewis, Washington. Cabela's carry some models of the Danner line.

As a Railroad Machinist, I had to wear steel toe
boots for over 20 years. For me, Red Wing held
up the best, but were very uncomfortable.
Wolverine was ok, and is what I wear now.
Carolina "Gold" were the best..comfortable and
wear good, OK when the railroad paid 2/3 of the
cost, but, pretty expensive now that i'm retired.
But US made Quality doesn't come cheap !

when you can wear a shoe/boot and forget its on, thats a good boot. red wing has been that boot for me for 30 years.. lucas

I've tried on a lot of boots. Finally found a Justin 4766. You can google it. Not sure who carries them. Has a nice padded insole which is soft to walk on and better that some of those added insoles that move around and make your feet not fit the boot. Also has a narrow steel toe to make it easier to get out of a stirrup but not so narrow like cowboy boots that hurt my feet. I was looking for comfort and steel and a wellington and that was the best I found so far.

I've used several types of boots but I've found a lighter boot makes a big difference. The last boots I bought used a non metalic toe and shank but were super light. The only thing I would have liked was a thinner sole but the boots are very comfortable. They are made by Cofra. Dave

(quoted from post at 05:32:31 11/13/09) White Boots, made in Spokane, Washington are great footwear.

White's are great boots. I wear the Smokejumpers. Paid a lot of $, but worth it.
Also, Redwing style 2231 for pull-on,the soles are urethane, and are practically wear proof.
I like Redwing steel toe loggers also.
Wesco also makes good boots. High $ though...

If you buy Redwings, look at the inside label for the made in USA tag. Those are the only Redwings that are any good any more. They will all be the higher priced styles though...
