I have a original TRACTO-LITE rear work light. Bulb is burned out. The bulb is soldered into the back of the lense and says 6V. I just converted tractor to 12V. Can this bulb be replaced in anyway as to keep it as original as possible? Maybe I am just out of luck. Little help please

REX-
You can try to save the original lamp/glass lens by unsoldering the old, burnt-out 6V bulb, and carefully remove the metal housing from the glass -there are two crimp points around the glass so the trick is getting it apart without breaking the glass. It gets even trickier putting it back together. There also is a rubber gasket around the inside perimeter of the housing where the glass sets. You can get a 12V bulb and solder it in place, but as I said, patience and careful surgery are needed to get it crimped back in place. I do restorations of these old guys so if you want to send it to me, I can replace the bulb for a fee. I think Dennis Carpenter sells 12V dimpled lens repops of the lamps. If you hve th efrosted ring style, I don't think he makes a 12V version yet. Hope this helps.

Hey Tim,
Don't know if you have been following my '46 restoration, but I have two perfectly good head lite shells (came with the tractor) and I can't find the lenses to go in them.
The sealed beam lites available are 5 3/4" OD and the lenses I have are are 6" ID and about 7 1/4" OD.
Restored to original 6V, and would love to use these old shells as I believe them to be original equipment.
I posted pics of the lenses a while back but got no response.
Will post again.
Let me know if they are usable and if you are interested in re-building them.

Rex.....original lights for the 46 were like the lights on the 8ns.The only difference was the screw or bolt that held the bezel on the "bucket".Give me a call at 1-888-355-9937 and I will be glad to explain the lights history. don b1

Sorry Rex.....the above post was for Tom.AND....TOM...since you are in Canada....there was an another item about the lights you might like to know. The mounting brackets were different that the ones used in the USA. don b1

Hi Tom-
You have the original CM HALL headlights used from the 9N up until the 8N. FORD also supplied headlights made at their Flat Rock, MI Lamp Factory. The HALL lights are hard to find for restorers and the bad news is parts are not available. They used a small bulb and a reflector. The glass lens had "TRACTOR-LITE" and the Hall name. I have some info on all the components of the HALL lights put together years ago from an old member, Truck, and posted by yet another old member, Tyler Neff. I would hange on to them and look for a set of them that have rusted out buckets but good glass and reflectors. I just saw one on the popular auction site and they do pop up now and then for 200-300 dollars average. Now, the Canadien style headlights are a different animal. They used a pie-wedge bracket and had the wire access thru a hole in the bucket- not a hollow mounting bolt. Hold on to those HALLs.
