Worming a goat

Looking for advice from someone with goats. I picked up one last fall and I need to worm it. Anybody got a suggestion on what to use. I know you have to rotate wormers to keep them effective. I've heard some horse wormers work will but many aren't approved on the label for goats.

We use safe guard on our goats. And we have also used Ivermectin on them. I prefer the safe guard because it is oral and a lot easier to give then a shot is. Just means if you are milking them you can not drink the mil for about a week

Use safe guard and switch the next year to ivomec. Our vet recommends giving them 1 dose two days in a row for both. A follow up dose 2 weeks later. He also recommends to give ivomec orally. Use ivomec for cattle and squirt it down their throat same as the safeguard.

Also with goats to save a little money on worming, about once a month pull there eyelid back and if its nice and pink no worms, if its pale you better worm them.

Just for reference my wife has a herd of 45 registered boer and boer/cross goats.

Ivamec oral. Works great and easy. I think instructions say one tenth cc for every 10 lb. You can use the pour on orally but it takes more per dose. I stopped using pills unless I have to. If you only have one probabily not worth purchasing a whole bottle of either. Most pills can be bought individually at the feed stores I go to. About 40 cents a pill last I bought.

When I had mine, I gave them all a shot of ivomec ( think it was a cc per 100lbs ). The wormiest ones would fall out a scream and holler for a couple of minutes and finally get up like nothing ever happened. Back then it was either ivomec for cattle or safeguard.

people used to give them a pinch of copenhagen, not sure that it worked but they claimed it killed the worms!

I've used positive pellet wormer when I just want to worm one or two goats. If this is the first time goats have grazed the property you shouldn't have much worm trouble. You just got one goat? I've always heard goats don't do good alone.
