Wrench for 4020 Starter

I need a curved 9/16" wrench to get to the inside mounting bolt for a 4020 starter. Does anyone have one they can sell me or tell me if these can be purchased anywhere?

That wrench is curved and has a offset in it. JMS/.MN is correct that Your JD dealer should have one for sale. I could not find the part number on line. NAPA has one that is just curved. It will work but not as good as the one with the offset. I usually don"t use mine much anymore. I use a crows foot wrench on a 1/2 inch extension.

You can use a short 9/16 if necessary, but it is a real pain. I checked with JD and believe the wrench is like $45 now.

Part number is JDE80. Most Deere dealers have them in stock for a shade under $20.00.

Besides the Deere wrench, Snap On sells a better one that is double-ended. Works on starters and fuel injection pumps. Snap On # B4400. The wrench Deere sold was made by OTC.

Hello Tommy Miller,
If you know a Chrysler mechanic chances are he has what you need.
I call it a stater wrench, and it looks like a question mark ? The curved end will be a box end while the other just a handle. They one i have are 9/16 and 5/8 sizes. You can also get an 1/2 moon wrench with 2 box end sizes. Check your local auto store, they may have one.
Guido.

We have a lot of "still working every day", new generation JD diesels in the area, that have long since lost that little left side panel over the starter.
With that panel gone to a nail on the shop wall, you can "clock" the starter nose over so the solenoid leans farther away from the engine block. Makes it much easier to reach the "SOB" starter bolt.
