I use a Grand. The classic type, model. M 1 , as per memory. Suspect low res photos, but the bayonet is sharp for gentle persuasion. Trying to break habbits of leaving keys in cars too.

Getting a picture of the perpetrator (unless you now who it is) probably won't do any good. My brother in Sac. CA had some one shooting at his front windows with a bb gun a few years ago. He set up a camera to his computer and got a video of 2 teenagers (?) shooting from across the street. The police asked if he knew who they were. When he said no, they weren't even interested in watching the video, let alone keeping a copy of it. Good luck.

I use Blink I thought I was buying Ring I was looking a Ring the next day I got a 50% off offer I hit buy it did not dawn on me it was not Ring. I have door bell cameras and floodlight cameras a total of 6. Its gets tricky with 6 I had to get two syn modules and add a outside wifi station. I wish I had brought Ring. I did get a video of two guys that came back and stole some junk from me. I put it on Facebook I got quite a few calls identifying them. They were charged with it.

Get as high of resolution as you can afford. Pictues do no good if you can't read the license plate numbers

The ring app on your phone but there is a yearly fee. Some of the ones that don’t charge a fee use memory cards. They still have an app to view and get alerts but you have to download load the card to save it.

We use the blink cameras, that are part of amazon. Have 8 cameras around the house. They are wireless and run off the wifi. They provide a cloud storage for a monthly fee, or you can do what we do and stick a storage card in it for free. It stores the video until its full then it just records over the oldest video. But make sure the main hub has a slot for a memory card. Some models dont.

GOOGLE this. There is a lot for free its your call I pay for a subscription. Ring and Blink are not the only players.

A surveillance camera will do little to prevent theft, a surveillance camera sign is a better deterrent. A barking dog or two is a pretty good security system as it is much easier to prevent a theft than it is to recover a stolen item.

How do you know it was a kid, do you suspect a neighbor? Has the stolen plate already been recovered and the thief identified?

Many law enforcement agencies use automatic ( passive ) license plate readers on patrol cars and posted along roads. Reporting the plate as stolen to law enforcement might bring the quickest recovery.

This is a screen shot I just took of the blink camera. Pretty clear.

I originally bought the first set of 4 a couple years ago, still work fine. Had to change the batteries in one so far. Bought another set of 4 last month, I think it was a black Friday type of sale. The module that came with it didn't accept a SD card for storage, so we just used our older one. Cameras all synced up fine.

As I added more cameras I had to add a Sync module to my systems. I have cameras on my house and several outbuildings I can cover a long range. I add a outside Wifi extender. All my cameras are Blink a mix and match system of doorbell and floodlight cameras. Some battery and some wired. I have three routers on my system one in the house one in a metal building and one on a pole outside.

A Sync Module is a hub that plugs into an electrical outlet to relay commands and network details to devices in the system it manages. It connects to your Wi-Fi network to handle activity for up to ten Blink devices.

The closer you put the sync module to the cameras the better they work. This is my guess as you add cameras it overwhelms your Wi-Fi router all I know when I added a sync module to my house and shop all cameras went on line and work as they should. One camera you will be good to go add another you may need a sync module on a Blink system.

Ran wires to 8 cameras. Avertx. Had them for years. Love them, couldn't do without them. I don't know if they are the best
because they are the only ones I've ever had.

I use the Ring cameras, as far as I know they don't need a module. They work flawlessly and when they don't the customer service is excellent, they will sit on the phone with you to get connected if needed but normally they connect fairly easy. They have indoor which can be plugged in, The outdoor ones. run on batteries and can also be solar charged. I use them at two houses and just keep adding cameras. I can watch them all on one App and each camera will alert you when someone is in view. Even if they do not prevent a theft I will have them on Camera, At my rural location I can see every vehicle that rolls down the driveway. I think they are a great deterrent. I could always notify law enforcement while someone is tresspassing even it not home. I pay $100 per location to have them record to the cloud and can see live views any time. I have one pointed at my furnace at my rural place to detect issues like leaks. The batteries are easy to change and last close to six months before needing charging. I couldn't be happier, these cameras come as doorbells, flood lights, and just plain cameras. They have fantastic resolution and are reliable.

I have 2 camera systems. One is an expensive Lorex with its own hard drive. It does a very good job. And has an app you can look at on your phone to see the cameras. Night vision is only fair. It is hard wired.
Now my 2nd setup is:

I have 4 of them. Inexpensive and so far have has worked flawlessly. It is wireless. Each camera has a card installed for storage. They also offer cloud storage. The cameras are PTZ and the night vision is excellent as it has its own lights. It also has an app for viewing I’m amazed by them every day.
Bottom line is I probably wouldn’t invest in the expensive system again.
