Z B - 134 continental engine

I know the Z-134 was a popular engine for the TO 35 ferguson, but mine has a plate on it that has ZB-134. Was this a special order in 1959 or has somebody put a different engine in it?

None of my old parts catalogs lists a ZB-134, or any ZB Cont'l, for that matter (which only shows there's a lot not listed in those old catalogs!!)...
If nothing definite comes up, check with the old Cont'l Gurus, Montes Eqpmt in Chicago:
Email Jerry/Gerry Moon there... (garradmoon@[email protected] or montesequipment.com). Send all tag info in your email.
I'd appreciate knowing what you find out. Many thxx!! Bud.

Forgot to mention my Z134 listing (only have one, in a 66 Thonpson bearing catalog) shows it as 3 5/16 x 3 7/8...would appreciate knowing if your ZB is the same or different. Many thxx!! Bud

Here are some numbers in case some body here knows about them.
head casting....Z134A601.
Block casting.....CWC----D99. and
Z134A500.---AK.

Numbers on plate on block.

ZB 134.......693504.
Then on the right side of plate..spec.27.

Plate on dash has.

Model TO35

SHM____197273.

Any information will help,Thanks

The ZB-134 was the high-altitude gas engine. The comparable tractor SN for the later 35 models would have an "H" instead of "G".

Thanks, I'm not sure what you mean by "G", there is no "G"on it ,it's 'ZB-134'. There is another plate riveted with the engine plate that has.

What is done to the engine to make it different and to have that warning on it ? I have had it for about 15 years and am using it at 2500 ft. elevation. The only thing i saw different on it was it had a split exhaust manifold with two out let pipes which i am removing now for new original single pipe, manifold.

Don't throw away the double stack!!--air is thinner at 5K' and above, so engine could be set up to intake and exhaust more air than engine for sea level to 5K' use---going to single exhaust stack could cause back pressure, loss of power. Check the internal sizes of the two manifolds, look to see if the single stack will allow as much exhaust to move as the double.
I would guess running a 5K+ altitude engine under 5K' would be like supercharging it a little, maybe shorter longevity due to higher strains from more power?? or perhaps combustion irregularities per heavier charge in cyl's?? Interesting.

I just now removed the manifold and replaced it with a single. I'm going to hold on to it for awhile. I'm doing other repairs on it,when i get it going again it will be tested. It has a front loader bucket on it i use a lot ,so it won't take me long to see if i have lost any power. I'm not operating it at 5000 ft. ,I'm at 2500 ft. so i was hoping it may be better for the old continental engine.I would like to find out more about the ZB-134 engine.
