Zenith carb adjustments

Hello, I just replaced my marvel updraft carb with a zenith, anyway it only smooths out, [under load], with the choke pulled out about a quarter inch. Tried every adjustment on carb, am I missing somthing? Choke is set right. Thanks for any advice,, Bernsy

Depending on which model the Zenith is, there may not be a load adjustment screw. If there is no screw, then the carb is already at the max for fuel delivery.

If you can't adjust the load jet, raise the gas level in the bowl by reducing the gap between the float and its reference surface.

At some point we get to jets and that is a balance for the particular carb and engine as in the vacuum ability over certain range to extract enough fuel at lower vacuum yet not go too rich at higher. i don't know the engine or if the carb was jetted for it. There are some priorities to advise. One may say first off that the intake gasket seals are very important and also to where the carb is attached. The tendency to overtighten things will result with bent or broken flarings. It is good to know where these areas exist and then how you may want to deal with them. There are recommendations that WD-40 sprayed around these areas while the engine is monitored to rpm will indicate a leak. To that I say it then voids another easy fix.Something like old hair spray or correct gas(small small)applied around the area will not contaminate the remaining gasket. Then some quick fix doesn't get sucked right up and land on your valve stems and stick them.
