Ignition switch for A/B

To some extents do you see that old's post is just jerking everyone, who replies, chain. From the beginning he knows the problem, knows how to fix it, and chooses to stay using a "hot" wire (jumper wire might be a better term). It just gives him the chance to tell people, who are in good faith making good suggestions for the most part, why their ideas aren't worth trying for him.

If old should ignore our "nonsense" then perhaps we should Ignore old's "nonsense". Personally, I think he likes most of this banter and knows exactly the type of replies to a post like this will bring, or he wouldn't post things such as this that are clearly going to get some replies that are nonsense or on the harsh side.
Thing is I want a switch like the OEM one since the old one lasted decades and looks right. Yes I know the tractor was built from junk tractors and built from what I had laying around and it has done it job for around a decade now if not longer

So is the old switch from the A or the B? Or something else? Knowing what the original is from can allow finding the right part number to search for. If you only want NOS (new old stock) you still need the number to search for, and may be impossible to find.

Yes I know new old stock maybe hard to find if it can be found. Not sure if the switch came from the A or B but if I remember right there the same on either one. A few years back I had a problem with this switch and found it had been wired so the fuse was in line with the ignition and that was causing problems fixed that and up till now I haven't had much trouble with it. Sort pf wish it was winter because looking for a switch I may have would be easier since I wouldn't have to deal with all the weeds etc.

Doesn't matter, they were all the same. All the letter series models used the same ignition switch, with the only variation being magneto vs. battery ignition. Since all As and Bs came with a magneto and the tractor in question has battery ignition, the current switch didn't come from an A or a B.

It did come from an A or B and both had battery ignition on them.

It is not rocket science. Here is the switch. Junk yard will have original ones, just used, but Probably still good forever. You can order one from here or several other places. eBay has a boatload of them. It really is not hard to find them. Just search for battery ignition switch super a or b FARMALL.

The As and Bs were available with either magneto or battery ignition and are both ignitions are shown in the parts books, it appears old is right on this. 62801DC and R2720 are two of the early part numbers for the switches.

Neither one had battery ignition from the factory. Battery ignition including the now-defective switch were added by previous owners. That is the relevant point concerning Jim.ME's post about determining part numbers.

Absolutely not. The battery ignition was added to the A/B Parts Catalog as a retrofit.

At this point it really does not matter. If someone on here had a perfect new in box switch for a B and offered to charter a private jet/helicopter and get there as quick as possible and install it, grease tractor, fill the gas tank, install I new battery just for good measure — there would be problem and it would not work.

Ok, my error, I stand corrected.

He is likely considering as original to the tractors he had to make his AB tractor.

It would help if old would provide a picture of the switch in question to see if it matches what the parts book shows or is some other switch.

old,

Does your switch look like the one in wh's picture (post # 47)?

This is the current replacement CNH offers as the 62801DC switch in place of the style in wh's picture.

It's a BA as in front half B and back half A. The ignition switch it has is the old factory rotary switch which from what I understand also turned on the charging system and head light if it had them. The knob on the switch is about the size of a 50 cent piece.

I may well be wrong, but this now sounds like you are describing the switch for the lights and charging that someone wired to turn the ignition on and off, not the ignition switch shown for a battery ignition.

If this is it your are in luck there is a NOS switch on eBay right now for just $200 plus shipping.

Or here is a link to the one available from PartsASAP/YT for 89.99 plus 14.99 shipping.

If this is not it let's see a picture of what you actually have.
That one looks a lot like it but I'll have to open up the box it sits in to see for sure been a few years since I had it open to see it

I have to believe someone wired that light/charging switch to control the ignition rather than purchase and install the separate switch shown for the battery ignition when the distributor was installed. It appears the switch you have said you are looking for is available, it is a light switch, not the ignition switch which people found for you. If this is not the correct switch you have pretty well eliminated the OEM switches, for an A or B, from what you have, as I see it.

I feel you will stay with your "hot" wire at the cost of the switch.

The good thing is this did help kill a day when I was limited in doing things outside. And I learned the distributor were retrofits, not original as the tractors were built.
