806 shift cam

A friend of mine has a 806 that broke the shift cam that’s under the top plate so they removed the top cover to replace the shift cam and then couldn’t get the top transmission plate all the way down because I’m assuming the reverse rod came out of the reverse fork so 2 different people have told him the tractor will have to be split to fix, now I have never worked on one of these before but from what I’ve studied it shouldn’t have to be split to fix the problem, what is your opinion of what it would take to fix this tractor, it was running great and then he got it stuck so thats all I know

Your talking about the hi /lo/n/ rev. Yep when you jump into them ya FIRST remove the side cover there behind the left step , if the hyd oil level is at the full mark you will loose about a gallon . This is where the rev. shift fork lays and the in you lift that top cover that fork tips away and most times the small key falls out . Just had mine down with a broken Hi LOW SHIFTING FORK . Ya also have to have the shifting fork just right to drop into the cam slot and some body lining up the reverse shifting fork and make sure the woodwroff key does not fall out . If the key fits loose in the shifter road then you had best replace the shifter rod as you will be slamming the shifter to get it into reverse. . On the 06's a little slop here a little slop there and you have issues getting into rev. . Next up is a full clutch , trans bake and MCV DUMP VALVE adjustment to top off better shifting

So we’re going to have to split the tractor to fix the reverse issue?

No. As stated above, remove the plate behind the left step. Removing the left step makes it easier to. 1/2 inch bolts, 3/4 socket to remove the plate. This is also the front wheel drive access. Then follow instructions from tractor vet.

thank you sir I was hoping it wouldn't, I watched a video with the same issue and he didn't split his, this is new territory for me.

NO , ya just have to remove the clipped corner plate behind the left step on the left side of the rear end housing , 3/4 headed bolts . Like i said if the hyd oil level is at the FULL mark on the dip stick when you remove that cover you will loose one gallon if it is over full the flood will come . Since i am and OLD GOAT i don't have any U TUBE Video's of this and unless your with in 25 miles of me I ain't ah coming to show you how to do this .

Removal of the step is really only needed when a tractor is set on 30 inch row spacing , around here many are still on the OLD 38 inch row spacing and ya got plenty of room to get to that with out extra work . The there is the fact We have HILLS and a 30 inch row spacing causes PUCKER FACTOR while working the side hills narrowed up. JUST SAYEN.

Around this area of Michigan, everyone has the wheels in as tight to the fenders as possible or cab. No the step doesn’t need to be removed but it does make it easier. Don’t forget to have a bucket ready like(vet) said.
