    Ford 3400 industrial questions

I have a couple questions - On a 3400 gas tractor what is the engine oil capacity? And to what do you adjust the valves to? Thanks

    Cold weather diesel start re-worded

Wait until your like us in the UK and your paying $7 a gallon for road fuel ( diesel or gas ) . You'll soon find a way to start and run diesels . Here gas and road diesel about £1.20 per litre so thats $2 per litre . 3.7 litres to a US gallon is $ 7.40 . Off road diesel about half that .

    2130 stripped pto gears?

Does the pto still work with the 21 spline ? Then it sounds like the problem is in the 2 speed part at the back of tractor . Maybe a loose gear on the countershaft .

    1982 jd 3130 (us2840) transmission case screen

Cleaning the screen will highlight a problem rather than remove a problem .

From designing the Ford 9N to the Deere40 series

Very interesting . No doubt Ford's loss was very much Deere's gain . Both manufacturer's brought out powershift transmissions in the 60's . The one Mr Brock was in charge of was rather more successful .

    2750 running hot

The single most unreliable part fitted to Mannheim tractors ( apart from the entire hydraulic system ) is the temp sender . I would check this is OK before going any further . If it doesn't seem hot then it probably isn't .

    Mannheim head gasket failure

Just a quick question to my friends on the western side of the Atlantic ocean. The 6020 and in particular the new 6030 range of tractors have a reputation here in the UK for blowing head gaskets , often at less than 1500 hours . OK it's not a big job , and if done with enough care not as likely...

    pulling with a 4 cylinder tractor ( JD )

Has anyone much experience of pulling with any of the Mannheim/Dubuque utility tractors , especially the 4 cylinder models ? Just curious . The European Superstock champion for 1981 was a MF 265 , " the Nipper " , it had 3 stage turbocharging and water injection , but I've not seen many 4...

    2140 power

Thanks B and D , I was expecting something along those lines . I'm not changing the tractor . No its not been dynoed , but comparing its performance on some implements to other tractors then its not much more powerful than our 2040 model ( non turbo version of same tractor ). And a long way...

    2140 power

I"ve got a 1980 2140 , same as US 2750. Had it for 9 years , it"s done 12,000 hours . Its had an in frame overhaul , pistons ,liners ,big end shells , head skim , injectors. It has also had a complete hydraulic system overhaul , all the hydraulic brakes/clutches were cheked overhauled . Its like...

    Engine Management Devices

Over here in the UK it is very common for tractors to have aftermarket devices fitted to the engine management control of modern tractors to give more power ( or better fuel economy ) . Just curious on the thought of my US/Canada friends on this subject , and if you agree with me that they are...

    Mannheim 30/40/50/55 series

Funny , humourous . I have reread all the replies to my post and read a good number of threads on hydraulic problems on the utilities and it seems that my Trans Atlantic friends have more problems with the pipework in the low pressure system . It does sometimes happen over here but its far more...

    Mannheim 30/40/50/55 series

Sorry Jim , I was being just a bit cheeky , it's my British sense of humour . I've been following this forum for a couple of years and I agree that there is hardly a day that someone isn't on with hydraulic problems with a utility model . In the US you have experience with both utilities and...

    Mannheim 30/40/50/55 series

OK , I get the message , most people who work on JD's think that the Mannheim models are not worthy of having JD on the side of the hood . That wasn't what I asked in my OP , I'm not denying that they aren't perfect , what I wanted to know was what did the Waterloo rowcrops have in the hyd...
