    Jim, I actually enjoyed working on my 8n. Parts are available and reasonably priced. I'm sure you know be careful with a stuck engine. Don't want to break anything. Penetrating oil let it soak in. Take off both valve covers and spray penetrating in there also. Use the crank pulley nut or jack up...

    My 8n has 4 new tires. Also wheel weights on all 4. All parts are put together and tractor reassembled. Has a cracked block. Any idea what it is worth?

    Sleeve removal suprise

    After further cleaning the #2 block hole I see a large oval crack. Seems like it's ready to fall into the water jacket. Kinda unexpected problem. Ya, its junk. It has been a good project and I learned alot. Thanks for all your help TOH.

    When I removed #2 liner I saw rust. After cleaning the area I revealed a 4" long crack! Now what? I guess I now have a parts 8n.

    Yes, my numbers are truly off. I used a old borrowed micrometer. After talking with the owner he confessed to dropping them several times. So I will buy my own.

    So I understand that the std crank Journal size is 2.488. For easy math I used 3 decimal places to get a rough idea. My crank shells have a #'676 010. My crank measurements are 2.242 front, 2.242 middle, and 2.244 rear. I did the math but not sure if the numbers are correct for a .010 under...

    Forgot to say remove plugs. Easier to turn over with precision.

    To turn engine over either use the crank pulley nut or jack up one rear tire put shifter in 4th. Might need a helper to turn tire.

    What is the best place to buy a Neway cutter? Model number? I would like to do the work myself so I could learn about it. Nearest machine shop is 70 miles and they may charge $100 per hr.
