    8n HELP again!!

So it seemed I had the electrical issues fixed on my newly rebuilt 8n. But... The engine runs great when I jump across the poles of the resistor (basically bypassing it) but if I let the juice go through the resistor it is almost impossible to start and runs horrible. So what have I tried...

    8n HELP solution!

Thanks to all of you who gave great advice regarding getting my newly rebuilt 8n running right. Well it turned out to be largely the old resister. With a new one in place it is running pretty darn good. Now for some tweaking of the carb and I'll be back to work!! Thanks, Dave M.

    8n HELP again!

Hi Jack, you are correct that it will not start unless I jump across the resister terminals or just remove the wires and clamp them together. The it will start but still runs lousy... sound like it is missing at the exhaust pipe. When I try to increase rpm it will studded and shudder until it...

    Installing the 8n distributor

On my '48 8n, is it possible to install the distributor 180 degrees off, meaning that when I had it out I rotated the dist. cam so that it did not go in as it came out? Would it make a difference? Would it run at all? Dave

    8n HELP again!

It is the original 6 volt, new plugs, good wires (hooked up correctly), seems to have good spark, point gap set, new fuel and good flow, cleaned carb. Is it possible to put front mount distributor is 180 degrees off? Dave

    8n HELP again!

I'm back. Anyway tonight I cleaned up all wire ends, made sure they were going where they were supposed to go, pulled the distributor and cleaned the points and reset them, checked for spark at each plug and that they were also going to the right places, and jumped here and there to include...

    8n HELP!

Thanks all of you! Given I am tired of messing with these old parts I think I will replace most of them, but I will do it one at a time to see what helps. I cleaned the points well while I had the front of the engine off but will do it again. I will get a message back up here when I have...

    8n HELP!

Assuming the plugs are numbered 1-4 from front of motor to back, then the wires are installed correctly according to the numbers on the dist. cap. Other ideas? Again, I have to jump across the resistor to get it started and if I take that wire off it starts to run poorly... Frustrating!

    8n HELP!

It is 6v, all original. I mean even all parts. Only thing I"ve done is replace wiring harness several years ago.

    8n HELP!

Hi all, just finished putting my rebuilt 1948 8n back together. Started it today only to find that it runs horrible. It has been quite difficult to start unless I jump across the resistor located inside the hood near the amp gauge, with a lead. Then it will start and tends to run smooth...

One more 8n valve seal question...

Hi Gary, thanks... I think :) God almighty, another issue. I suspect I should do as you say but given I use this tractor VERY little, I believe I will clean everything up, lap the valves and be done with this part of the restoration. Geez I have spent alot of money on this project already. By...

One more 8n valve seal question...

So, these guides seem to be a bit of an anomoly... right? Most n's usually have a place for the seals? Any suggestions as to whether these guides are good/bad or whether I should swap them out with others which accept seals? Dave

One more 8n valve seal question...

Here is a picture of my guide. See the metal ridge, one on opposite side also.

One more 8n valve seal question...

Thanks for getting back. No, it is not old seal material. All eight guides have these metal dividers in two opposing places... say one at 12:00 and one at 6:00, so the seal could not fit down into the groove. Might there have been some guides that did not use the seals? Thanks again, dave
